Jason, 09 Jan 20181.6 Billion for two songs?? Are you kidding me?Murica.
kira, 03 Jan 2018You haven't seen on the post that its $19 billion profit for last year?Spotify never profit since its launch...
1.6 Billion is a joke. Either the judge is gonna dismiss this case, or they're gonna settle for an amount in thousands. Btw I recently purchased the monthly subscription, and I must say Spotify is amazing.
Imperator Neubaticus, 03 Jan 2018Disgusting money grabbing scheme. Wixen is a giant nobody. Not even if they win. The 'solution' is afai aware is in the statement, there are two types of copyright breaches deliberate and accidental
Spotify will be able to show the number if downloads it has sold, the issue is Spotify thought they were doing this legitimately, the error is 3rd party failure
Not intentionally breaching the copyright
Again note that the amount is more than Apple sued Samsung for in copying Apple iPhone design
I doubt that the downloaded item generated $1 million where $1.6Bn comes from is fanciful given this is approximately 8% of Spotify market valuation at launch.
AnonD-569198, 03 Jan 2018What would be the rules with the new copyright laws you seemingly propose?Forgot two things.
First. If coprightholders can sell own copyright to some other - you have to able to sell your license to anyone. Of course, you will lose rigth to use this media immediately until next purchase. Licenses owning have to be inhered like copyrights
Second. If you have license - you can download purchased media from any sourse - torrents, streaming services, etc. without any permission.
Summarizing, copyright holders have to be equal befote laws at the same level as license user. Pirated media have to be the same as fair licenced media usage discriminations.
And one thing - if any software developer bankrupting or sutting down - he have to distribute license keys for free for anyone forever or remove any protection. Especially with online activations. If it's impossible - source code have to be opened for anyone.
AnonD-569198, 03 Jan 2018What would be the rules with the new copyright laws you seemingly propose?Fair copyright stock exchange opened for everyone. Stright payments to artist with fixed fees for labels. Equal acces for any service to this stock. Any prevention have to became criminal access. Ability to download purchased music, movies, books, etc. in any format at any time for personal use without any extra fee. Remastering or "director cut" has to be significally discounted due to your previous purchases. Any discrimination of fair use of media has to became criminal offence. Any lobbying has to be punished as criminal offence too. Total restriction for advertisings at paid services.
Shortly - any copyrightholder have to bear criminal responsibility for any kind of discrimination of copies own.Licensing have to became lifetime without any restriction and service untangled. Make unified base. You have no pay for previousely purchased media ever. Maybe just for streaming service. But just for service. If you are streaming purchased media - you have to be free from extra fees.

AnonD-468012, 03 Jan 20181.6B dollar lawsuit? I wondering how much the profit of Spotify. You haven't seen on the post that its $19 billion profit for last year?
Spotify Android cant stream to excellent music player such as PowerAmp. FLAC and iTunes FTW.
AnonD-696124, 03 Jan 20181.6B jeez. Spotify might have forgotten to pay up but 1.6B fine, that's so stupid. The tibunal... moreThey didn't forgot to pay. They pay licensing and royalty services provider agency to acquire licenses. It seems the agency is the shaddy one (according to Wixen Music).
1.6B dollar lawsuit? I wondering how much the profit of Spotify.
I wish Apple Music would get a similar lawsuit as well. They could pay such a fine pretty easily.
And what about the artist who made the songs ? They don't see a penny out of that 1.6b.
The money is for the copyright company that will have more money to sue people over and make money for them selves. No artist ever get that money or some of it while copyright companies are the biggest scam there is to get rich by suing companies and so on for copyright they don't have on anything.
