They just want the iPhone to look distinctive and it does.

- the clock + alarm icon
- battery level icon (showing the battery percentage only when the notifications drawer is open)
- wifi strength
- GSM signal strength
- one icon for app notifications (if apps have one or more notifications, the icon is visible; if there are no notifications or the notifications were dismissed, the icon is off)
Three icons on the left, three icons on the right - with the notifications and alarm icons turned on. Otherwise, two on the left and two on the right.
