*Message to all companies:
I prefer the 16:9 ratio, though would consider 17.9 or even 18:9 max! but using a bit of the available wider space (in our pockets) for better components, beefier speakers, better optics, better battery, etc.
Also bear in mind, at the moment we're having to buy cases which makes devices even less pocketable, because drop & scratch still isn't good enough.
I don't understand Samsung sometimes...
Surely 18:9= 1:2 ratio is enough, but no, you have to push 18.5:9= 1: 2.056 ratio, making it too tall & skinny to fit in our pockets especially when we sit down.
This is a niche ratio, not mainstream, therefore shouldn't be flagship.

Practicable substance over style not vice versa.
18:9 screen lovers, fine you don't like top & bottom bars on the 16:9 widescreen from 18+:9 content, but now you have black bars on the Left & Right instead with most images & video content instead rendering that extra tall space redundant.
Personally I'd watch a film on my 16:9 TV or at least a tablet size screen.
What I'm trying to say is consumers know what they want, don't go backwards by discontinuing it & telling them that you know better!
Entirely agree.
Why even bother with the 18:9 screen.
It is the main reason why we did not buy the new Samsung Note.
There is no material advantage in the 18:9 and the long skinny mobile will not gain max traction.
I hate to admit it but we bought the Mate 10, even with concerns about all thing Chinese owned.
In any case, the Samsung 8 series is not selling well.
phones starting to look too lame with this new extra wide screen
I didn't like it
I hope they stick with 16:9

S8 User, 09 Jan 2018Chinese company phone and phone made in China are 2 different worlds.Yes they are but they means the same thing.
2:1 is unneccessary. I mean it doesn't help reduce the bezel ratio. Mate 10 is a testament that even a 16:9 phone can reduce bezels just as much or even more than 2:1 and above.

I totally agree on 16:9 sensor. Full screen when you're shooting (at least on 16:9 phones). Which is why i loved the LG G4. Also, i got the Huawei Mate 10 because i still think 16:9 is still relevant. 18:9 (2:1) seems to be just a fad. Unless all videos are suddenly shot in 18:9.
Worst about no bezel mania is the aspect ration changes to why no one making phone with small bezels and 16:9 ration. Itt wil kill the stupid trend immediately!

Chinese phones are more durable or at least cost less for repair.
Nokia 6 is also made in china and yet its most durable smartphone of 2017.

Can GSMArena add in the 16:9 aspect ratio screen size, as that is now a more useful metric to determine useable screen size.
