[deleted post]Fanboys will always change their views so that they align with their beloved brands current design trends.

Be it the materials used in the design, the placement of the finger print scanner, the inclusion or lack of OIS, single or dual camera, display tech etc......just watch the Sony fans fumble and trip over their own views time and again as they struggle to keep up with Sony’s changing smartphone philosophies

Personally I don’t think Sony need to go down the oled route, they have top notch lcd based solutions, but more and more I see market analysis suggesting that the future belongs to oled, so I can’t blame Sony for at least exploring the possibilities.

Either way, I’m gonna have great fun watching the Sony fans flip flop on their views yet again.

If they plan on bringing their fingerprint sensors under their displays, eventually, they will have to opt out of LCD

XtremE16, 13 Jan 2018If this is true.!!! I'm sure Sony comes to bezel-less display and new design... Wow What makes you think oled means bezeless? I feel Sony won't follow the crowd, but perhaps slightly thinner bezels. I own a xz1 compact, and these bezels are welcome. Much easier to hold.

Is it the rumours came from a trusted side? Either IPS or OLED each has its advantages just choose what you want and don't binded by those marketing strategies (fake news rumours or trolling).

Hmm... It looks like they might do like Apple and get their sAMOLED from the only source, and then tune it themselves to get an even better display, brighter, more accurate...

Please perdon me though its my first Sammy device But I have no complain yarrrr after 1 months. The device impressing me actually day by day. Exactly like 6s impressed me first time in IOS eco system. No hanky panky. Use app as you like. Or use it just like a feature phone. I think this is what making sammy no1 worldwide. Any way against this post i am again exited that sony is adopting oled. And guys when a jap decide something its must have some pillar. I may again go back to my root if this happens.

                              There are two options:

                              A) screen is designed and made by LG
                              B) designed by Sony, built by LG

Someone Else, 13 Jan 2018Lol I agree. Once you used sAMOLED, LCD'S black would just look gray to your eyes.Only if you turn the brightness all the way up.
IPS LCDs could now get as dark as OLEDs even if not quite there. But nothing beats IPS LCD in terms of shear brightness.
It's the reason why OLED TVs can only go about 1000 nits of maximum, while IPS LCD like the Sony's prototype 85" 8K display could go all the way up to 10,000 nits.

There's no such thing as deep black in the real world. Never seen a night, sky or anything in reality (except black paint) that's actually as black as what AMOLED throw at us. Sure those deep blacks are pleasing to the eye, no doubt, realistic? Not better than IPS.

OLED is the present, microLED is the future.
No risks of burn in, could get twice as bright while still consuming less power, perfect viewing angles with higher contrast, and pixels won't die out early because they're inorganic.

Who knows, we might just see a 4K HDR 120Hz OLED smartphone display. And if the true success continues, they might just unveil the world's first 8K HDR display smartphone.
Sadly, it is Sony. No one will appreciate it until Samsung and/or Apple do it.
