Sorting photo job can be done by old phone without any AI chip. So currently there is NO software that utilize the AI chip capability, except Apple's 3D face recognition.
So currently AI chip is just WASTE OF MONEY and dead-weight because no software utilize it.

Samsung has used exynos 7870 in most of it's phone last two years, unlike snapdragon processers, Samsung failed to unveiled powerful soc like 630 and 660 for mid range devices

No surprise here. Samsung has enough money and time to be the best at everything. Whose NPU will be better? That will be determined, but Apple, Huawei, and Samsung all have one. This is only positive news for the technology(not for everyone because AI has yet to be determined) and the market.
Also I just have ground breaking idea; cloud gaming on a smartphone. Imagine playing PC games wherever. Any graphics, any game- it will run. Who will do it first?

What purpose is the AI chip in Huawei/Samsung phone used for... moreThere is a lot possibility with AI on the phone : a simple example is google assistant but it still depends on cloud computing AI.. now you can expect it AI chip for offline purpose not only for 3D recognition, like maybe scene recognition on camera. Or just learn your usage apps, sorting photo etc.

Of course this is the futures of smartphone.

Pardon me for my ignorance on AI. What purpose is the AI chip in Huawei/Samsung phone used for? I heard that Apple uses AI chip for their 3D face recognition function. Does the Huawei/Samsung phone have similar 3D recognition function? Or what is exact purpose of the AI chip actually used for? What benefit owner of such phone can get from the AI chip? Not future expectation or vague guess on AI functionality.

Meaning s9 doesn't have an npu? If huawei doesn't upgrade the power of the npu(currently the most powerful) in their next chip maybe it means the concept is a bust.

And by the time the Note 9 comes out, S9 and S9+ would be priced similarly while being inferior with this NPU kind of thing. Asking the same price for two similar devices without the knowledge of people that Phone A is inferior to Phone B is a type of scam. And as we all know, scam is another way of saying they only want our money, unless you have a different idio(ma)tic definition to it.

The fact that Samsung said it would only be ready for Note9 doesn't sound like a company that just want your money. You may opt to skip S9, fair enough.
