AnonD-729015, 18 Jan 2018FInally Apple listening to customersWrong, listening to the multiple sues after been catched. Full damage mitigation mode, but they'll pay the damage done losing customers and compensating when appropriate. And still not clear if the slow is only due to a flaw in several of their designs, on purpose to push people to change their phones or probably a mix of both.
savage, 18 Jan 2018tim cooks just make the most stu**d excuse i ever read in this mobile world:))). Yeah, the wors part is: throtteling the CPU will actually make the battery worse. The proccessing will take more time, and everything struggles more. Meaning more bagtery consumption. Also, more on screen time.... I am guessing, apple has a way of keeping sheeps in check.
FInally Apple listening to customers
F U Apple, never again any apple device. You become extremely greedy company.
So if someone opts out, wasn't the iphone supposed to shut down occasionally? (according to apple themselves)
If not, why they've been slowing down the phone on purpose?
Of course that because...
This is a victory for those that still are tied to this greedy company. Although the battery design/size is still a flaw in several models and will continue been a problem forever. The damage is done.
But I already freed myself. Too many good Android phones this year to not bite and flavour at least one of them or two. Too late Apple, for now and perhaps forever... Good bye Apple!
The only problem is whether you can trust the quality of Apples batteries if they are prone to wearing down. Not only the potential lack of quality but whether Apple is doing much to prevent (or even just provoking) the problem by not having design choices / software optimisations that limit exposure to degradation. It wouldn't surprise me if Apple are filling in one grave to dig open another for it's customers. They can look like they are fixing the problem while exposing people to the random shutdown issue and it all depends on whether they are making proper attempts to improve on that issue. It's all down to trust in the manufacturer but Apple has lost that with it's cover up and then subsequent failure to respond properly (many don't need a battery replacement and those cheated out of knowing they could have avoided expensive upgrades by swapping the battery shouldn't feel satiated by a measly one off, limited time, cheaper battery replacement).
A quick discount won't restore their reputation.
ME, 18 Jan 2018But the battery will discharge twice as fast. ;-)See, the battery will discharge according to usage procedures regardless of the speed they are carried out. That and processors lower efficiency at higher speed and screen on time during slow down cancel out

Anonymous, 18 Jan 2018You never had an Android ... even Samsung S8 is faster and better than your iphoneYou clearly have no ide about Apple A series processors. Even 2 gen old A9 is able to beat your S8 in performance.

Its about time apple stops cheating us. Bad news is they will use endless alternative methods

Mr. Cook, I want two more:
1) Enough slack battery capacity that can tolerate at least 30% wear and degradation. So that next iPhone can be used comfortably for 3 years without performance throttling or battery replacement. Apple said they expect 3 years usage time before phone replacement.
2) Make the lowered $29 battery replacement fee permanent. And design next iPhone for easier battery replacement, if not user-replaceable.
They couldve done this in the first place and my phone doesnt randomly restart and its battery is 3 years old

This clearly means that Apple admits that they are indeed being shady hiding the fact before being forced to be transparent now that the cat's out of the bag.. Poor ifans
3cpo, 18 Jan 2018What about older devices stuck at 9xx,like ipad 2?They are not affected by slowdown. Every iPhone affected by slowdown (6,6s,7, maybe SE idk) is able to run the latest version of iOS.
