I don't think it's wise decision, consider, Sony also makes 3.5mm jacked headphones.
Great Sony tech, likes always.

If you can solve the problem in carrying your phone on the arm. You would be able to find alternatives.
Note that I'm using two armbands to mount it on my arm.

Phablet is not suitable either, I know how is the size of a phablet just get a bigger size of armband strap to fit the sporty lifestyle.
I use an old school 3.5mm Sony headphone, I just get the all relative settings on and it retains the parameters everytime I listen music is simply enjoyed and wonderful. If I use an NFC or another headphone I will tune the settings to maximax the headphone ability.

When you go to the apple store. And ask a clerk for a wireless alternative for the headphone jack if you have the 7 series and above. They would directly offer you the apple airpods. What's even more is they have an employee that has already owned and used it, that will give you the actual model of the unit. On this point. The customer already see's what a compatible wireless headphone for their iphones.
This also goes for the samsung. But they offer AKG wireless headphones.
Meanwhile, on the sony part. If you go to their store. And ask for a good BT headphones for your sony. They would offer you a wide variety of BT headphones that may be priced lower than the MDR-1000, or higher than the 1000. What's even more is that the Sony has BT earbuds and headphones. So let me ask you. HOW WILL the MDR-1000 series be noticed if none of the employees owned and use it because they have bigger BT headphones? And as history repeats. "Bigger is better".

I use the 3.5mm old headphone from Sony, once I plug it on, my phone automatically plays the music.
I won't run while listening to music with a smartphone over 5inch, I think it is a burden to carry such a big phone for a sporty lifestyle.
Pair a headphone to the smartphone by using NFC is very nice and smart I mean it is very user-friendly.

How do I listen music on my phone? The same as other users DO! But my problems with wires especially wired headphone jack is annoying as HELL. And once the phone is accidentaly dropped on your pocket. It will drag along your earphone as well. So the tendency to break a wired headphone jack. When I bought a sony BT headphones. All those problems are now gone since I'm using a MDR-EX750BT. And because of its sleek design. I was able to play my music. While at the same time. I was doing my jogging without those dangling wires.
AND FYI. Both your phone and my phone have NFC. And I also used NFC to connect my BT headphones. Once connected. The BT sensor takes over.

Think about it. There are other competitors who offer BT headphones with a lot of features. And sometimes are offered at a cheaper price than the Sony BT headphones.
Let's not forget that some BT headphones like the apple airpods are being offered as a match up for the latest iphones. Samsung now followed it with AKG BT headphones. Sony however didn't have any matching pair for their BT headphones.
Tell me. How sony advertises their BT products?
That's a very bad move by Sony... Really disappointed. I wish this news to be not true.
