A2 news is by far what I am most interested in of all things. That product is by far the most interesting of all phones currently getting build.

LG superfan, 23 Jan 2018This is where project treble come inProject treble makes it easier to phone manufacturer to make upgrades because They don´t have to wait cpu/gpu manufacturers to upgrade drivers. It still requires that phone manufacturer makes the upgrade.
And in this case it means nothing, because the same company makes the phone and the soc...
It's for Indian market. Xiaomi can't sell mediatek devices in India already. The allowed time for sd processor is end in March 2018. So we can expect this thing in India
Anonymous, 23 Jan 2018Please, Xiaomi, do not put your own processor in Android One phones. This would remove the hop... moreThis is where project treble come in

AnonD-694886, 23 Jan 2018It's good that they used 16nm instead. 28nm is just not as efficient as 16nm or lower process nodes.I still hope it uses 14 nm or even 10 nm, but if it really tries to mimic Kirin 960, then it's already on the right track. I could see the strategy pattern, though. They're testing the field with S1. Then they will only try to match (or surpass) Kirin 960 performance with S2. Once they've managed to optimize the SoC along with installed software, they will start to boost with S3. Mi 5C initial verdict wasn't so good (bad thermal, low performance, high battery drain), but reportedly getting better and better as updates go.
Wow your chipset is pretty xiaomi well done

If it come as an android one phone, with a fully detailed released kernel source, it'll be a great phone
AnonD-715008, 23 Jan 2018If Mi 6X comes as Mi A2, damn! It will take at least the Indian market by storm. Surge 2....Um... moreNokia 6 2018. Same price. 630. Fast charge. And no, miA1 fast charge is gimmick. Superior build quality. So, nope.
Looking forward to seeing if Xiaomi release a Mi A2! Would go up against the Nokia 6 2018 nicely. Although the chipset seems way more powerful than the 630 in the Nokia. I wonder if the new chipset prevents future upgrades - it shouldn't in theory as updates are software rather than hardware. I wonder if they'll ship this to Europe properly as well.
why you are taking the initiative to change the camera placement like iphone x. from my perspective mi a1and redmi 4x camera and fingerprint placement is better than iphone x. another thing is maximum mi brand back part is not attractive because of wrong placement of camera and flashlight. like redmi 5plus, note4 and so on.
a huge number of customer prefer xiaomi phone because of battery performance. so don't reduce it.
best of luck
AnonD-67052, 23 Jan 2018You do understand that Snapdragon 630 is not even near a match for a SoC that's supposed to be... more660 is reserved for Mi Max 3. That is the reason they won't go for it.
630, even though a minor improvement, at least won't be the same 625.
Even if they bring Surge S2 to India, we will have to wait and see how it goes because as it is mentioned that it is even more powerful than Kirin 960 which is really a huge claim to make. I hope it is true and if it is true, we gotta have to see how reliable it is and for how long the company will serve the Surge S2 in software support aspect.
AnonD-715008, 23 Jan 2018If Mi 6X comes as Mi A2, damn! It will take at least the Indian market by storm. Surge 2....Um... moreYou do understand that Snapdragon 630 is not even near a match for a SoC that's supposed to be as fast as Kirin 960....
Surge S2 should be at least 2 to 3x faster than Snapdragon 630...
A "good match" would be Snapdragon 660 that gives you at least 70~80% performance of Kirin 960.
Snapdragon 630, is just the same P.o.S. SoC as Snapdragon 625, with a small improvement on GPU side...
For me is easy... just make A2 from this, replace Surge A2 with Snapdragon 660, and price it at 300$ / 300€
It would sell like hot bread or water in desert !!!
If Mi 6X comes as Mi A2, damn! It will take at least the Indian market by storm. Surge 2....Um, not sure how reliable that would be but it is yet to see how it performs. If Mi A2 comes with Snapdragon 630 with really good cameras, I am not gonna look anywhere else.
Anonymous, 23 Jan 2018Please, Xiaomi, do not put your own processor in Android One phones. This would remove the hop... moreI think they will not do that. I think it will power Mi 6C or Mi 6X or both.
