No matter how good the cooling solutions are, if a chipset is generating too much heat that's just bad from the start since heat=wasted energy. A mobile chipset should always run at room temperature even under heavy load for prolonged time. It's an achievable goal if the manufacturers would lower the clock speed and optimize the software. I believe phones should be designed as devices meant for communication, and for media consumption, and at most light gaming capabilities then you could have a cool phone and longer battery life.

Cooling is above the chipset performance because a big heat makes your battery drains much faster.
Yes snapdragon 810 was awesome but its toll was really heavy.
I am using Moto X4 and completely satisfied.
I am a heavy gamer and with just 3000 mAh the phone can run game like Clash of Lords for 4-6 hours on a full battery which is awesome.

TheStrategist, 28 Jan 2018I guess Apple has then the best SoC available.Compatible with IOS only.
Android is bigger comunity offering much better things for much less than apple.
So having bet of best if you cant use it properly is waste of money and time.

Why cant arm run both ?
This is why i always wanted intel to make their mind up and decide one way or the other if they were going to get into the mobile device area,at least their kit can run anything, arm etc are a dead end, useful only for running severly limited devices, such as "smartphones",,as a device,a 2018 samsung 8 note can do no more than a 2008 sony/ericsson p910i,yes a note 8 has better cameras,modem,cpu/gpu etc etc,but it has exactly the same features,in ten years of so called development,we have gained nothing, just bigger, shinier toys.

Found it super weird that there wasn't a choice for better price to performance ratio. Isn't that the only thing actually worth something?

Snapdragon fiascos has showed us how irresponsible LG, Huawei and Google deal with problems their users face (I happened to experience bootloop issue myself too). On the other hand, Samsung has did a great job on collecting their exploding phones, showing to everyone how broken phones must be handled. (Un)fortunately, all of this means that I'll be avoiding certain brands in the future until entrepreneurs learn to run their business properly.

It's based on ARM which is a RISC-based CPU unlike x86 which is CISC-based. Emulating it is a hard work and even Microsoft has did it on their internal testing, it's still not as efficient as an x86 CPU running a x86 code.

Geekbench is pure shit. There's a reason why in professional desktop scene people never use it for benchmarking. It's purely synthetical, closed source (so we don't know if it prefer which compiler), and ecosystem limited. You can't compare two different CPU that has different OS and type directly using Geekbench, that's not how any of this works!

Also, 1080p at 6 inch or less is fine, it's crisp and doesn't need any anti-aliasing or supersampling. but the problem is within the pipelines arch, it's not strong enough to crunch more data to give you better texture, bloom effects, wider color gamut, and anti-oclusing. Raw gflops alone isn't the key, optimization is.

Nowadays all flagship performance is powerful, the only lack is the battery R&D, every flagship can't manage to get over 48 hours of continuous heavy usage without power bank, most of the flagships sealed battery kinda encourage people to charge everyday and the sealed battery loss it capacity after few years, some sealed battery depleted can't charging, some battery rely on reduce performance to save the battery from unhealthy conditions. No one will going strong unless have a advanced battery.
