S3 was a flagship smartphone, Redmi series are budget ones, so I don't think they'll support split screen.
My Redmi Note 3 which is released much later is yet to receive MIUI 9 :(
New MIUI, but running on old Android.
Not so sure it's a good solution.
New features and fixes are great, but new Android version would add even more speed, better battery life etc.

And it might get support for those features. The features are now a part of MIUI 9. Any device with it should be able to use all the features. It might not run flawlessly tho.
Samsung had split screen on the S3 which was Jelly Bean - It was a part of TouchWiz.
I heard Xiaomi Mi5 won't be getting Oreo. That's a bit of a party pooper. The phone isn't even that old...
Who cares if it is Android 4.4 with old security patches... Android below MM is a crap. Go custom or get the cheapest and not outdated 5a...
