The problem with the Zenfone 4 series is the price. Asus simply priced it too high for what it is. Even the pricing with the Zenfone 3 was pushing the limits.

Vonarian, 01 Feb 2018Why ZenFone 4 series were failure?!Sorry if I were mean, I don't know but this Zenfone 4 series doesn't good as their Zenfone 3 and late Zenfone 2 series. Their sales is getting lower on every series. I think it's because of of their marketing strategies doesn't work properly. I don't know either they have small marketing area, or some of their phones still not fully released or their unreasonable pricing which is causing their failure this time.
Zenfone 4 & 4 Pro still nowhere in sight in my country. There's some of retailers sell this phone which they imported from other countries for Zenfone 4 & 4 Pro. At the same time, the given prices is too way expensive. Giving RM3399/$800 price tag on Zenfone 4 Pro is too overpriced. S8 and XZ Premium right now already cut their price which I can get around RM2499/$583.

I already had a Zenfone 5 a few years ago... there was also a Zenfone 6.

Though Next upgrade is not given..
Zenfone 4 & 4 pro never launched in India.. what a poor.. only selfie versions launched with old sd625 processor.

They were doing it all wrong in 2017.

ASUS is doing it wrong, way wrong...5 months new all series phones is a big mistake and that way we dont expect support for older phones since all eyes are in the new ones!
ASUS should stop, and think first if market need more overpriced "mid to high" end phones, imho the market is float of devices like that and ASUS are doing it Sammycrappy style this time.
STOP THE MADNESS ASUS!!! OR YOU'LL BE OUT SOONER OR LATER.
