Michael 2, 01 Feb 2018Am I the only one with the US version of the Xperia XZ1 Compact with Oreo but with the Android... moreHey Michael 2,
So if you go here https://support.sonymobile.com/us/xperiaxz1compact/kb/8019307455ff6184015e92f6332401b94/ you will see that we have the following info for the Xperia XZ1 Compact US version:
- Software build number: 47.1.A.12.34
- Android security patch level: 01 January, 2018
And this is what my phone has:
- Software build version: 47.1.A.2.324
- Android security patch level: August 5, 2017
Does this look alright to you?
Because to me, by all standards, it does not. :-(
kupfernigk, 01 Feb 2018The Z5 and earlier are not all immune to Spectre and Meltdown but are unlikely to be attacked ... moreYup, Z5 eg. SD810 is based on A53/54 Cortex and is immune to hardware exploit compared to the latest SD 820/835/845.
Daany, 01 Feb 2018(In kevin hart's voice) REEALLYYYYYYYYY??? https://m.gsmarena.com/results.php3?sQuickSearch... moreDon't really know why you're bringing Samsung in here when Sony is the one being discussed. Did I strike a nerve?
wooty, 01 Feb 2018Is HMD sells phones costlier than Sony's? If they can draw a bigger picture why not Sony?
S... moreHMD phones are built by Foxconn.
It is cheaper than having own facilities. ( Reason they built iphones too).
Xperia are not made in China.
If their flagship have same camera of E5 and L1, you can see how cheap they are..
Frando, 01 Feb 2018Stock android is way superior than samsung's UI or any other UIs out there. Sony is doing it right..You're hilarious. Does a Sony phone's UI look the same as AOSP or even the Pixel? Does it have custom applications (yes, it does; Music at the very least)?
The Z5 and earlier are not all immune to Spectre and Meltdown but are unlikely to be attacked very successfully as their baseline cores are A53 or earlier, which aren't affected. (The Z5 is 4 A53 and 4 A57, so designing an exploit to suit is probably more than it's worth for a fairly low volume phone. The new LX series use 630s which are all-A53 and don't need patching. But the 820, 821, 835 all need it and the 650 has two A72 cores - a popular core so there may well be exploits.
tl;dr if you have a Z5 or earlier, and don't sideload apps, probably not worth worrying too much.
Meanwhile give the 845 a skip and wait till the next generation, whose performance won't need to be slowed by patches.
Anonymous, 01 Feb 2018Am I the only one that cannot tell which Sony phone is which just based off the name alone? So... more(In kevin hart's voice) REEALLYYYYYYYYY???
And I thought that new OS ver. should come with better experience, not worse....
950XL is example of that. In its 3rd year its the best.
Georgio, 01 Feb 2018On my note 8 is 7.1.1 I'm in europewell, 8.0 has been out for 6 months, and you're on 7.1.1.... 8.1 is there .. just saying..
samsung sux at updates. plus they botch half of it so that you have to get the new phone to get ALL of the update advantages..
i remember the original Z - almost 3 years of support, 4.1 JB -> 4.2 JB -> 4.3JB -> 4.4 Kitkat -> 5.0 Lollipop, just excellent support, even nexuses weren't so lucky
Cirov12, 01 Feb 2018Xamxunf Does the Ridiculous, February 1 S8, note8 and s8 + Andloid 7.0Better l8er than never...
Sony's statement is well and good. But I find it worrisome, that Telia in Estonia (part of TeliaSonera group, Estonias largest telco) has pretty much seized the sale of Sony phones?! (selling the stock, obviously, but won't be getting any new ones in either)
Will there be a Sony Mobile to manage updates in 2 years?
Cirov12, 01 Feb 2018Xamxunf Does the Ridiculous, February 1 S8, note8 and s8 + Andloid 7.0This article is talking about Meltdown and Spectre, are you stupid?
And Samsung's S6/Note 5 got patched, so why Sony doesn't patch their Z3+ and Z5/Compact/Premium?
They did the same thing to my Z3 which is still stucked on May 2016 security update.
Maybe Samsung is slow to update OS version, but Sony sucks in security updates for older models.
Note7 owner, 01 Feb 2018It's amazingly funny to see android users drool over updates. Are your phones not working well... moreEducate yourself about computer security and how it's critical to patch security holes, then you'll understand why.
[deleted post]Talks are cheap! Well Sony can prove me wrong by beating either Huawei or Samsung sales on the next Quarter! Then we shall talk again, shall we Mr fanboy?
Georgio, 01 Feb 2018On my note 8 is 7.1.1 I'm in europeon my iPhone 7 is iOS 11.2.5
Frando, 01 Feb 2018Stock android is way superior than samsung's UI or any other UIs out there. Sony is doing it right..Too bad... Nothing comes with those updates! Not even a simple new clock widget! Lag? I've viewed hundreds of videos on YouTube relevant to Sammy's laggyness from those grumbled patrons out there but none of it were officially substantiated. Look at Note 5 for example... did you notice if there is any straggle of it? Yawn.....
