Go on htc's developers site ; they've already released an SUU update. It works like a charm :).

I find it funny that you desire peeps are moaning because HTC are taking ages, I've got a darn X10 and still on 2.1 FFS! Apparently gingerbread has rolled out recently so wait and see ayee

will not be available over the air (OTA)
This is official and final release. It is on developer page because it needs experts or experienced users to install. Some regions it is not available. Check the license before update. Removes all data. Backup before u update.... more instruction in file.

updated mine this afternoon.
runs fine. no issues with sms. never used mms so did not test.
need to root it again though. unrevoked complains about too new firmware

Just updated mine, it is running just fine, no problems what so ever with SMS/MMS, and now I have much more free space for the apps I really care for, great update HTC, if it didn't take so long.

On Froyo I had 136mb internal memory free after a factory reset. Those who have upgraded to Gingerbread, kindly post the amount of free memory left after upgradation. And also whether wifi, sms, etc are working properly or not. Kindly mention what all apps are removed. BTW I am in India using an unbranded Desire and there is no update available as yet. Even after manual check.
