Why are mid range phones always a generation or 2 behind on the mid range/low SOC like new phones come out with the 625 when there has been 3 models since (now 636?) and some other low ends still use 430. I understand these are low end devices but aren't the SOCs meant to be low end from the beginning.

Disappointing choice of chipset, should've been better if Nokia put at least SD 625 so it would be more appealing. Many people see SD 4xx series by half an eye.
But at least it's a 14nm chipset, and it's not Mediatek.

That might be for European market, where people don't fear number 4.

As for snapdragon 450 , if new 5 will get 630 like 6(2018), then with 450 4 will sit just bellow 5.
Performance gap will be not much noticeable CPU-wise (8x 1.8 GHz A53 vs 8x 2.2 GHz A53), so price must be set correctly.

I think if, 5 will have 3GB RAM and 4 will stay at 2, it will play nice.

                6(2018) SD630 4GB,
                5(2018) SD630 3GB,
                4(2018) SD450 2GB.

"Nokia 4" doesn't quite sound like a phone that should do 4K.

Actually it does sound perfectly fit to be 4K ready.

About Nokia 6. It was manufactured in 2016 and announced in Jan of 2017 which was just beginning they have mention there is snapdragon 430 it was not hidden if you don't want to buy then don't buy its your decision frankly speaking stock android experience is different then the flavoured ui still my nokia 6 is smooth in normal use. What type of high specs you expected need in that at that time on January 2017? The main problem of nokia was they release the mobile very late but its negligible as it was there start and making such a global debut takes time there are many things involved like tieup with existing retailers of global countries etc they have made available for each and every segments from lower feature phones to smartphones like nokia 8. It takes time just understand think before you comment.

And with this HMD being Finnish story... don't make me laugh. Only kids believe it. Below average phones with below average cameras and Spydroid. There's nothing similar to Nokia of old.

                              Just my thought.
Nokia device will be divided in 5 segment.
                              1/2 ultra low
                              3/4 low to mid

                              7/8 mid to high
                              9/10 ultra high

And oh, this PROVES that Nokia isnt Chinese.
Chinese Smartphones are still afraid of number 4. OnePlus, Meizu, etc.

Nokia, as well as HMD, is Finnish.
