Sony Mobile should fire their engineers and designers for creating these abominations.
11.1mm thick yet the battery is only 3180mAh. Huawei somehow managed to fit a 3200mAh battery for a 5" phone yet keep it only 7mm thin. Sony needs to borrow a page from manufacturers like Apple, Samsung and Huawei on how to design their logic boards to save space. Poor logic board designing and internal construction on the part of Sony. Massive PCBs with plenty of wasted space plus difficulty in doing basic repairs like battery replacement should be easy (not where you have to remove the entire PCB just to get the battery). Not to mention removal of the headphone jack as a pathetic excuse for a bigger battery when several phones are thinner yet have a headphone jack and a bigger battery.
Borrowing MKBHD's words: a poor use of space. Looks like Sony desperately wants to shut down its Mobile division by creating these abominations.
This is the ugliest design from Sony ....
What a pity ... I'm using they phones since first Sony Ericsson ... And now I'm afraid this phone will the last Sony design
Kiyasuriin, 26 Feb 2018I agree to the fullest. it also happens in other brands. Unfortunately BYOD (Build YOD) Is ne... moreTrue! I don't know why the removed the 3.5mm audio jack despite the phone being 11.1mm, it it could have fit right there.
See I rather like Sony for there block design, I have a X Compact I love it.
AnonD-145316, 26 Feb 2018For those people complaining too much about Sony that!! Sony this!! For Christ sake go design ... moreI can complain cause I own XZP. And I do not like FPS on the back, removing the 3,5mm jack and copycat HTC U11 design.
And I don't like the following things on my XZP:
1. Low light camera quality. Serior auto also can be improved a lot.
2. Battery life can be improved.
3. Plastic frame of the phone can be made from metal.
What Sony phone you own? Or?
AnonD-27765, 26 Feb 2018Sony looks like playing catch up with these phones. These phones look amateur and unpolished c... moreyes you are right.
google assistant, alexa, siri, bixby: we know all of them.
Now we also have xperia assistant
AnonD-145316, 26 Feb 2018For those people complaining too much about Sony that!! Sony this!! For Christ sake go design ... moreDude, I'm a big Sony fan too, but you have to admit this design sucks! it looks like a pregnant soap or something..
My XZP is soooo much better in therms of design.
Also, I did a concept phone in photoshop based on the XZP. There, I'm one of those who will design a phone :)

Better talk abt yourself..Don't generalize people's choice just because you love Galaxy/Iphone

Unfortunately BYOD (Build YOD) Is nearly impossible to preform. so we'll just either request people to just go and work as designers. (As if you think your design you think of is better -_-) or swallow the frog and just accept it.
ONE THING I will not accept, disappearance of the 3.5mm jack.
Anonymous, 26 Feb 2018Americans only buy Apple or Samsung which are the only smart options. Even with fingerprint sc... moreOf course they do offer interesting new things that iphone or samsung devices dont offer. Haptic vibration system, 3D scanner back and front, 4k hdr video recording, super slo mo at fhd, new algorithm 19 mpx Motion eye camera, front facing speakers, fastest UI performance.
What they dont offer is headphone jack, and thats a serious con, wont entice samsung customers, and also sure iphone users wont jump ship just because of added fp scanner.
So you are right, it wont entice merican customers, nor will it retain most of Xperia customers worldwide.
Sad, but true.
stupid designer... what are da side bezzels.. xa 2 ultra is better than its... fail of sony
The compact one... 135 x 65 x 12.1 mm...
12mm?! Really? And Li-Ion 2870 battery... Dear Sony, why don't you just leave this business and do something or anything else...
Camera, power button and finger print button is way too low. The last sony that I used, i.e. 2014 x1 compact, was the best compact flagship design to date.
Fingerprint sensor in the wrong place? No 3.5mm headphone jack? Slippery gorilla glass back panel? Battery sapping HD screen for the compact? No FM Radio?
11.1mm thickness?!? This is hilarious. FPS on the back, removing 3.5mm jack.
Will not buy it.
Old design was very good even with the bezels. Never care about them. I just miss metal frame on my XZP.
Flagship? Overall it sure looks like mid-range for me.
Even Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro looks far better.
Sadly it's still LCD. If it's oled, I will choose xz2 compact over s9 to replace my s7 because sony's android is the best Android software.
Sony was OLED pioneer. How come they can't think that using oled is a must to compete Samsung and Apple. Even some Chinese manufacturers managed to put oled screen in their flagship.
For those who complained about the old signature Sony design, the classic case of be careful what you wish for. Now we have lost a signature and classy design for a new design that looks cheap and looks like most other phones out there.
XZ2 compact - not !
- 168g: heavier than a Galaxy S9 and barely smaller
- 12.1mm: thicker than most if not any other standard phone made in the last years
Better than other phones - not !
- Camera still F2.0
- no OIS
- no dual camera
- no 3.5mm jack
And the design is boring from the front, and ugly at the back.
For me that will be no more Sony phones.
