HMD Global clearly stated at the near end of their press conference that all of their phones starting from Nokia 3 will get Android One. We all know that Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 doesn't have their 2018 versions.

It is only 2018 models, and they are optional.
So we don't know if that means when you first start the phone it gives you the option to opt-in or opt-out. Or if it means the same phone will be sold in separate variants, like Xiaomi phones where some are sold with "Stock MIUI" and some sold with "International ROM".
The problem is that the HMD-Nokia devices are affordable only in USA, around the world they are actually quite pricey rivalling the SONY Xperia's, the GalaxyS flagships, and even the iPhone. And for that you don't get the best styling, or the best battery life, or the best camera, or best screen, or best specifications. In fact, its rather uncompetitive... and they aren't even marketed much. So all they rely on is nostalgia aka the "Nokia" name.
Me? I don't get moved by a brand, what separates me from my money is the product on its own merits, be it a Tesla or a Suzuki.

Ideally, once Nokia 2 gets upgraded to Android Oreo; it would be the Android Go edition just like Nokia 1.
So rather than being left behind as the article says, Nokia 2 will join Android Go.
