With Apple part of the purchase price goes towards iOS development and offering among the longest software support windows in the industry. Without Google and hundreds of other open source devs providing a 'free' OS, Android manufacturers would have to expand their software divisions immensely, resulting in higher costs, and higher prices.

They also provide the APIs and any necessary backend for the app store, home sharing, air play, car play, i cloud, ..whatever else they have. They support their devices far longer than the industry average, an expense that largely 'release and forget it' manufacturers do not carry. These are real-world observable facts, regardless of whether you like Apple.

IOS was made long long ago. Now it just adds in features that have been around for a long time already with a couple little tricks here or there. And it's like adding features was the hardest thing they ever did in their life. You pay all this money for "optimizing"... when all you get is some last second rushed beta that crashes and has bugs. And all the lags people say don't exist still happen.
Wow and then they update a couple older devices with some buggy heavy...Oh I mean so lightweight and optimized.....os versions that supposedly play so well with ram amounts that were standard like 5 years ago because.... It's optimized... It doesn't need ram or hardware features...as they then slow down the cpu on purpose of it wasn't getting bogged down enough. And the battery is failing because its cheap and started out at a low capacity already. But you can get that $29 battery repair now too.
And two years later after bendgate lead to touch disease and they silently fixed the cause of touch disease they finally admit touch disease and bendgate happened. But it's the users fault. It can only happen if they dropped it. But out of their good faith you can get the repair half off. IPhone 6 display repair for like 150 or 200 two years later for a negligent manufacture defect on a little lcd device. What a steel!!
There is more to tech, software, as life then just having the latest number and following a popular trend.

Apple supports all of their handsets for 3-4 years of major OS releases. Samsung *might* offer as many as 2 on a flagship device. I'm rapidly approaching 2 years with my GS7, and only 1 major update has rolled out in that time (7.0).
Notch is actually OK in normal use. Only use case when it is idiotic, is landscape video. I would prefer a wider black band on one side of the screen, to hide notch when watching video in landscape.

The r&d, hardware, and software cost of the s9 and note8 all costing more compared to iPhone. As well as included accessories. Like included fast charger and $100 headphones.
And the galaxies still are cheaper.
And phones like the pixel 2 xl might have cost a little less than the note 8 but was still more offer priced in comparison by what it offered and came with. The v30 too.
And the pixel 2 xl in fact so far was the most over priced android phone. It is the iPhone of Android in that aspect right now.

Poor support? It has the mist advanced ui on it and has been receiving security patches monthly. And is about to get oreo.
The ui is pretty laid back in aesthetics. If anything stock is the one that looks cartoonish thanks to the flat material idea.
And lag? You never used one at all have you?
