LG superfan, 28 Feb 2018That makes only three phonesActually 4 devices use SD660, Oppo R11 series, Xiaomi Mi Note 3, Vivo X20 series and Nokia 7 Plus. This SD660 is rumored to be more expensive compare to another SD600 series chipset that make it so unpopular to phone manufacturers. I think Qualcomm would renamed SD660 to includes its to SD700 series.

Because seriously looking how prices drop with every month, its always better to put that 50-100$ more on last year flaghip knowing that you will get all candy features and support, Instead of buying medicore phone that just look good but inside it have features and power of low end phone that will start slowing down after just installing few apps.

I still have Xperia Z3 and Galaxy S4 in my closed and they still work better than all those "premium midrange" devices.

So SD8XX AP's are premium AP for flagship phone, SD6XX are called as mid-range, SD4XX is budget AP. Then How is SD7XX line called ? upper-middle? or lower premium? There should be some proper name for this class of product position. Like "Business Class" in Airline seat. or "Choice" grade in beef meat.

Even better would be usinng 6xx series with 8 core 5x socs and 7xx series with 8 cores where x cores would be 7x based. So old 660 and similar would go to 700 series and 625-640 would stay in 600 series...

It appears to be more of a successor to 650 series. It does make sense. Performance of 650 and above is much better than 620 counterparts. They are just shy of being flagships anyways

                                    SD 800 series $1000 flagships
SD 700 series $800 lite version of flagship
                                    SD 600 - 650 lower midrange
                                    SD 650 - 700 upper midrange
                                    SD 400 series entry level

Just when smartphone was reaching a saturation point, industry created AI hype and saw an opportunity to make more money.

tl;dr- CPU and GPU are better with AI-skills.
