The notch certainly looks ugly and weird. The continuity of the videos is obstructed. It is same as ugly bezels of top and bottom. A better solution's would be thin top bezel which would just accommodate camera and speaker. Bottom bezel should be got rid of as logo and fingerprint scanner can go at the back. Sony is obsessed with putting their logo at the front. Useless. Everybody knows Sonia brand. Shift it to the back.

This is not manufacturers fault. Neither any single gimmick that got spread. It is fault of ppl. People want their phones look like fruit phone, and manufacturers make what people want. Same with curved screen. Same with slimmer phones with smaller batteries. Same with metallic slabs. People want their phones to look like Galaxies or fruits.
Reasons one want his phone to be iPhone :
1) preference
2)show off nature
Reasons one wants his "cheap" phone MUST look like an iPhone

I find it embarrassing that they copy apple why don't they do their own thing. Design something different don't copy. I think it is all the leftover panels because iPhone X was dud so Sammy had to sell all the notch panels to these companies.

Play a full screen video in landscape and that's not the case at all. The picture will only go to the edge of the notch effectively turning your 5.8 inch iPhone X into a 5.5 inch screen which is actually what it is in a practical sense.
The notch is unnecessary and a lazy workaround from Apple. A thin top bezel was all that was needed. The other OEM's copying it are morons too.

Dear copycats,
Since you seriously take the copying of Samsung and Apple, can you please copy their overall internals, too?
Like a large camera sensor, bright aperture, OIS on dual cameras, high performance SoCs, timely updates, 3.5mm jack with amazing quality (for Samsung), loud and clear stereo speakers, IP rating, wireless charging, USB C, microSD Card expansion, and build quality.
That way, I can say that copying isn't always a bad thing.

The rest, I won't bother ... moreYep, try not to say anything if u don't know about other brands my friend, because I have encountered a portion of immature fanboys of one particular brand who defends the brand all the way for some of the immature ones, they don't even know the flaws of the thing they are defending! I defend Sony because I know what is right and what is wrong, not only because I love buying their products. This is that one part that most people wouldn't get it right, they don't have enough knowledge in tech. If u are a tech junkie like me, u would already know the pros and cons of one particular brand or model without looking at the specifications because u already know it right at the start of the release of the thing. I defend based on facts, and of course, logic

These lazy companies keep copying any crap that Apple does. And what's more is that most of these ideas were not even originally from Apple! They still think Apple are the "trend-setter," when they're clearly no longer are. It's time for them to develop their own design languages! Even Samsung has finally made their own. Which is now being copied as well.

Why not? I personally agree with the notch, to at least differentiate products from one another. Sure, an all-screen with no bezels in sight is amazing, but if every phone manufacturer does that and every single model is just screen in the front? Well, I don't want to use the same phone as everyone else.
