It seems some companies exists only to copy Apple. If Apple would sell a bag with pee, they would too. If Apple would no longer exists, they won't too.

I can think of plenty of things that are worse than the notch.

Removing the 3.5 mm headphone jack tops the list of things worse than the Notch.

notch is all right. just to make the phone surface covered more with screen, rather than plain phone body. if the background of the top area is changed to black, just showing white texts, the oddity would be much less.

soon we will think a phone without notch is outdated. why the top bezel is such wide. I guess samsung S would adopt such notch on S10. and Iphone should consider to use the curved edge design of S. make the phone ultimate

Designer of that ugly notchy designed phone has to be punished with all notchy car, house, furniture until all his/her notchy feelings have been polished and fluidized for smooth, continuous eye friendly ways.

While I understand the notch looks like the I phone X, why is the Essential phone been left out? Wasnt that the first to introduce a notch among the new smash phones, before the iPhone X. And possibly even Sharp?

Get rid of the notch and just have a thin bezel. A notch is not aesthetically pleasing and I can't believe that designers think that they are.

the screen they are using are not the unsold screen for the iphone x, there are certain protocol in business that you have to respect.

This is no doubt the most irritating thing to ever grace a smartphone. I wonder if it played a role in the poor sales of iPhone X. I couldn’t stand that speck of black every time I look at the screen!

I find this article to be silly.

First of all, the first recent phone to have a notch is not the iPhone X, but the Essential PH1. So if there is a fad that everyone is copying it should be attributed to Essential, not Apple. But as usual, Apple copies someone else and still gets credit for "inventing" it. Serious journalists would not allow themselves to be so easily turned into the vectors of Apple's all powerful PR machine.

Second, the fad is not notches, it's the desire for so called "bezelless" screens, even though most of them in fact have bezels (just smaller ones). If you want to push the screen as far out to the edges as possible, then a notch of some sort is the only solution. So people are not fetishizing the notch. They are doing pretty much the only thing they can to to make a phone with little or no bezels. It's the practical consequence of the desire for smaller and smaller bezels.

Well said .. This notch nonsense is really a stupid trend .. Nonsense manufactures are following and forcing it on consumer blindly ..

I think the minimal bezel phenomenon shall be implemented like what Samsung, Nokia, Sony, LG has done so far .. A truly uninterrupted screen ..
