I solved the battery drain issue by performing these 2 steps:

Step 1 (soft reset):
- Press and hold the Power and Volume Down button simultaneously until the screen turns off.
- The device will reboot automatically. You will soon see the Samsung logo. If not, just press and hold the power button.

Step 2 (clear device cache):
- Turn off the Galaxy S7, and then press and hold the Volume Up, Bixby, and Power button simultaneously.
- On the Android recovery screen, use the Volume Down button to navigate down to wipe cache partition and press the Power button to select it.
- Use the Volume Down button to select Yes — delete all user data, and then press the Power button to confirm.
- Wait for the reset to finish and press the Power button when prompted with the message to Reboot system now.

After these two steps the battery drain issues were over.

Samsung Galaxy S8 on Verizon
NY City

Installed Oreo one week ago and my battery drains much faster then before. My the time I reach work it drops below 90% when it used to be around d 95%. By 6pm its close to 65% when it was never below 80%

I didn't change one setting not did I add any additional apps. The way I use my phone did not change from one week to the next.

I've read that this is not an uncommon occurrence. Any ideas on why it happens and bow it can be fixed?

Thank you,

sajjad ali shah, 02 Mar 2018still waiting for Android Oreo In Pakistan For My Galaxy S8 Plus its its not happening her... moreLol, are you buying phone for features, abilities and reliability? Or just to get some useless or bug fixing updates like Apple, which basically was releasing every week new patches for ios11 to fix never ending bugs and broken OS? People are exaggerating and don't really understand what is OS updates or just bug fixing patches. If you don't get updates every week, that mean you phone works fine and DOES not have any issues, lol :)

Galaxy S8 Android Oreo Update
Updated my S8 to oreo 3 days ago. Build no. G9xxxxxxcrb7 size 1350MB .
So finally it's a great update with good new features, device is running equally smooth. Tested everything no issue at all. Same battery life.
So if you are looking forward to update your phone,go ahead .its a really nice update and brings the amazing oreo and Samsung experience 9.0 features.
Just don't forget to run the device maintenance after updating and restarting .
The keyboard might not open right after the update .
I had to open safe mode and set up keyboard to make it work for unlocking. It might be due to the keyboard update in oreo. But it works fine after the safe mode set up. So make sure you know how to start safe mode before updating. ( holding power off option on display)

New features are nice, but I'm more interested in improved performance, better memory handling and increased battery life.

Some "upgrades" improve new features at a great expense of performance. Time will tell if this Oreo update is really worth it.

Mike, 02 Mar 2018There wouldn't be so much work if Samsung offered a pure Android edition ;).The pure Android edition is boring!
Even better the stay on the Android 7.0 completely, or maybe to turn back to the 6.0!

None of these features is necessary for an enjoyable experience with the s8/s8+. They're just minor improvements that you won't even notice after a while. Nothing compelling at all.

In the meantime we get the S7's Feb patch which updates only the weather app with the S8 font (Which I finally found after all those years.)
