I hope HTC have plans for increasing battery life for their smart phone while signing this deal. There's really no sense in having a walkman with little battery life. Else many will just stick to sony and nokia for their music. It may not be the Beat's quality, but at least they get to hear good sound without worrying about running down batteries so soon...

If I were Peter Chou, I would have called for some input from real audiophiles from online community audiophile sites. That's what Skullcandy did. Skullcandy has a bad reputation for SQ within the audiophile circles. They broke that norm when they released 2 new premium cans, based from the input of the Head-Fi community. HTC should take a queue from Skullcandy.

all i hope from htc is a powerful headphones amplifier because dr dre's heaphones are big. very few mobiles and mp3s can indeed drive big headphones hungry from head-shaking bass: iphone 4, ipod touch 4, ipod shuffle 1st generation, old nokia n91,n81,n96, samsung serenata, a very few samsung mp3s. sony, philips mp3 for example have a terrible weak headphones output.

"The audiophiles amongst you will know that in recent years Beats audio have quickly grown in popularity, backed by famous rapper and producer Dr Dre. The company have distinguished themselves with popular artist branded products including, 'Heartbeats' by Lady Gaga, 'Diddybeats' by P.Diddy and 'Justbeats' by Justin Bieber. Apple Stores now use Beats headphones on many of their demo models and the brand has become well known for its bass-centric, high quality headphones."

But the general consensus within the audiophile community (i.e., Head-Fi) is that Beats cans are seriously overrated in terms of the price to SQ ratio. I'm kind of sadden by HTC choosing Beats :(

Anonymous, 13 Aug 2011i don't know what statistic said and i don't care. i trust only my ears: iphone 4, ipod touch ... moreThen you've just conformed my point there: it's quite subjective because it's value is different to everyone. I wasn't trying to say you're wrong because when it comes to how we listen to audio it's a very personal thing and really hard to find a reliable result from different people. What I was only pointing out was that if you checked out some of those test results, the data gathered by a machine that's as accurate as it gets for everyone. With that said, I miss the old PowerMP3, that music player really brings out the potential of my old N70.

HTC was always a failure at music quality, whether earphone or loudspeaker.. and why didnt they venture with Cowon??
