As pointed out before the second video is fake, that's an upside down Mix2. The first video could be anything but it's still suspicious to me. Why is it so blurry and just a few seconds long? XDA have examined the firmware and they've concluded the front camera remains at the bottom. I'll believe XDA before any other source. As an owner of the Mix2 I have absolutely no issues with the placement on video calls at all. I don't take selfies so can't comment on that.
My Mix2 was just upgraded to Oreo and the gestures described in the article are there but are more of an addition to the previous gestures and not really a copy of the iPhone X type gestures. I don't want any notch on my screens and would prefer a 1mm longer phone to accommodate a top bezel rather than any notch. Samsung, Xiaomi, the Mate 10 and others do it right. The rest are barely better than the old Chinese clone makers.

since I don't use the front camera, don't care if they just got rid of it all together. however that's probably the least annoying place to put a "notch"... if you can even call it that.

kinda remind me of sharp aquos s2 that have those weird cut but serve no function.

Xiaomi, could have ignited the trend to get some pop-up camera, if they decided to include only camera in this notch kind. That would served the (so far) underachieved innovation in bezel-less war. Anyways, that idea went to patent registration for such tech now!! It will be interesting to see who comes first with that idea (may be Essential will do first or it is LG's patent, i forget though!) and the popping up needs to be really good and reliable though..
In future, we can see Company 'A' claims its phone pops selfi camera in 1.9 seconds against my competitor's 2 seconds like they doing with fingerprint scanners now :XD
(Ideally average Joe just wants FP or New pop-up camera to work properly, not doing much with under 1 second differences!!)

This will be the first true bezel-less phone. It will have the highest screen-to-body ratio. It also looks pretty amazing. This camera cutout is a far better solution than the ugly notch on iPhone & it's clones.
