-. -, 14 Mar 2018it's the same apparently, work with usb-c thumbdrive
both phone and my laptopHe is confusing USB-C with USB 3.1, the connector with the transmission protocol. USB 3.1 can use USB-A or USB-C connector. USB-C connector can use USB 2.0, 3.0 or 3.1 protocol.
I hope Apple moves the volume rocker from hw buttons to onscreen keyboard to save space and add more battery capacity.
Can't have ugly buttons popping out of a sleek sexy and shiny device.

George T., 14 Mar 2018Sony designers..do they exist? I mean, they made the entry level Xperia L2 - 9.8 mm thick, ... moreXz2 is 6mm .
HTC HTC HTC . I blame this on young editor who don't know any smartphone other than galaxy and apple .
The xz2 is obviously the redesign Xperia neo and Xperia play .
I'm sure the reason Apple remove headphone jack because they want to sell all the accessories like dongles and wireless earbud at premium price. Sony copy because they want some of that money too, they even got a new wireless earbud at $170.
AnonD-743635, 14 Mar 2018A phone with the XA2 front bezels+2nd speaker on chin ,xz1 sides and back, please please SonyYes man i want that too :DDD
Lex79, 14 Mar 2018Eek....that's a poor effort. Though Apple's 'courage' still takes the cake.
At this point I... moreWell said! Absolutely spot on.
I'd rather hear the truth than hypocitical lies.
Bravo to the few companies left who still provide the headphone jack. Not sure I want Bluetooth frying my brain for extended periods of time. Can't be good for you.
In other words, Sony saw how much companies were making from wireless headphones and wanted in on the money. Sony is full of shit. I have bought wireless headphones and the latency is terrible, even on higher end solutions. The lack of a headphone jack is unacceptable for a company that prides itself on sound.
There's also a global trend not to buy Sony's stuff so who am I to buck that trend.
they should stick to making TVs only (and maybe bring back VAIO, but that's a long shot).
Whackcar, 14 Mar 2018Sony used to lead & be successful. Now they just follow and keep failing. Unfortunately they don't follow succesful things.
Dropping the 3.5mm was one of the few succesfull thibgs to follow.
For example samsung that kept it showed her flagship sales drop like a rock in the ocean.
Huawei that killed showed her sales troting towards the heavens.
Unlike tech sites , people are *for* progress. Who knew?
It's silly to have two ports doing the same thing. I salute Sony on that, although too little , too te.
I want two headphone jacks. One at top and one at bottom. Two person will share music in one cell.......
Anonymous, 14 Mar 2018USB-C on mobile isn't same as USB-C on PC.
I , means standard is the same , but physical dim... moreit's the same apparently, work with usb-c thumbdrive
both phone and my laptop
Eek....that's a poor effort. Though Apple's 'courage' still takes the cake.
At this point I will offer at least a smidge of respect to the company that is first to admit the real reason for the removal of the jack..... corporate greed. So that they can save on components and charge for accessories.
At least then you could argue that it's just business.........
l couldn't care less about that jack but what ambient flow design language and what BS !!??. lf I want to upgrade from my XZ1 I'll have to put up with 50% extra thickness and nearly 30% extra weight, plus that phony 18:9 aspect ratio. This wayward device is a bad excuse to use Snapdragon 845.
Though they offer high quality wireless headphones, its still not better than wired one. Limited frequency and bitrate. Not to mention I prefer memory foam over digital denoising(not totally clean performance). Wireless headphones were here for some time already, its nothing new, but that was mp3 age, not now with phones capable of flac and uncompressed wav playback. Dumping jack just for better design... offer Better or same quality, I will jump on that trend then.
Removing 3.5mm jack is not a trend. I am not looking at pixels and Xz2s because this reason.
George T., 14 Mar 2018Sony designers..do they exist?
I mean, they made the entry level Xperia L2 - 9.8 mm thick, ... moreThey exist... And apparently they clarified that they followed trend...
Sadly, Sony should learn from Fujitsu, NEC and Sharp as per how to design a product and lead a trend, not be a late follower...
AnonD-522313, 14 Mar 2018Then why did sony not follow the trend of using QHD screen and stay in FHD instead? LOLS!QHD is useless.. No content is shot at 1440p.
That is why no TV has QHD.
Even on QHD, apps run 1080p too. Devs need to give support for QHD and 4K.
4K phone can be a pocket TV, QHD phone can not.
Others kids are playing with ugly notch...
Will you too?
