https://www.gov.uk/using-mobile-phones-when-driving-the-law
It's illegal under UK law unless you are stationary/parked
And then you can unlock it.

Sometimes, you've got to use the phone whilst driving. I like checking the traffic on Google maps whilst driving

Note7 owner, 17 Mar 2018Currently all you need to do is tap multi task icon and choose a task and it will jump to that... moreExactly! I always do this. Only problem I have that I can't use the maps on the phone to search anything if the phone is already connected to AA.

Anonymous, 17 Mar 2018Yes, because if my car had Android auto and it would not let me use the phone , then there is ... moreNot only that, it's an optional app. It doesn't automatically come with most, if not, all Android Devices. You have to install it on your own if you even bother to want something like that. Not that it's a bad app at all. It prevents drivers from using their phone and prefer them using the bigger screen in their car for the basics (maps, voice texting, music, audiobooks, and calls).

I wonder if this is coming after an update or if it's already here.....

They just ... moreYes, because if my car had Android auto and it would not let me use the phone , then there is no way I'm using the stupid feature. I don't need my apps running on my car screen. Gos would be nice. But my car already has a built in GPS and I use it .

You guys are dumb. They just had to say passenger because of the BS they would get from it.

              Nice 1 google!

defies the point, how is the phone going to know if it the passenger using it or the driver. as long as it's sync'd to the car the passenger can use the same screen in the car as the driver to choose music, etc.

Dumb. AA is to promote safety by using the large screen on the car.

Why can't Google make Android Auto to run in background instead of the need to swipe to unlock

Currently all you need to do is tap multi task icon and choose a task and it will jump to that app from the android auto lock screen. But yes please get rid of that silly lock screen.
