Please note that all kirin cpus are perfectly designed to run Huawei UI smoothly...so if they used something like the sd845 it would be a bit slow...and the kirin 970 is for mostly playing games...12 core gpu anyone

NoiseyBoy, 20 Mar 2018But the Kirin 970 has the NPU which has so much more long term prospect. In real world senario... moreAs I said before a phone with newer hardware will last longer and perform better in the long run otherwise we wouldn't need more than a few MB of RAM numbers don't lie software optimization can only go so far the same games that lagged on the Snapdragon 835 will lag on the Kirin 970 a core dedicated to AI won't change much.

Don't justify their shady anti consumer methods you're not getting paid anything to do so.

It was release at time when 75 cores were just introduced. It is last year's processor from Hauwei. But again not all phones release in same time. Say Samsung S8 sisters use SD835 released in Feb where Pixel sisters with same SD835 released only in second half of 2017.

Blame their processors release times. They tend to go at the end off the year, so this is "early" in its lifecycle. Can't see it being a lot better than the Mate 10 Pro, possibly improved cameras though.

MG7, 20 Mar 2018Kirin 970 is unacceptable in 2018 or price must be 25% lower. But the Kirin 970 has the NPU which has so much more long term prospect. In real world senarios it will perform much better when utilised. Look at how it can perform scene recognition on the Mate 10 in milliseconds compared to the 3-4 seconds it takes the new V30S which relies on the CPU/GPU.

F1982, 20 Mar 2018How can they be so far behind the S9 given the chips are so similar? Chipsets are different. For one, they utilize different architechture. I believe the Kirin 970 has Cortex A75 design, while Exynos 9810 has 3rd Generation Mongoose, and the latter is superior that leads to better performance. Mind you, the superior 9810 is still underclocked in order to match the SnapDragon 845's performance, which is also quite superior to the Kirin 970.

MG7, 20 Mar 2018Kirin 970 is unacceptable in 2018 or price must be 25% lower. It is still great in 2018. Nokia 8 Sirocco just beats it though.
Kirin 970 remains one of the most powerful smartphone chipsets in the world today. It will remain relevant in the next 3 years. Heck, even the Exynos 7420 is still in line with 2018 mid rangers, while the Kirin 950 is a notch ahead.

But I don't like the P20 devices themselves with the notch. What makes me love the P20 series is that they make the Mate 10 series cheaper.

F1982, 20 Mar 2018How can they be so far behind the S9 given the chips are so similar? Because kirin 970 is same of mate 10, which is on pair with SD835
