..."HP didn't know how to utilize it properly"...
Or HP don't want to know how, because Cupertino payed for it.
AnonD-18428, 19 Aug 2011nokia sucks = meego, right? hahaI don't get why everyone mentions Nokia on every comment page, get a grip.
Shame, WebOS is one of the few OSs that matches iOS in elegance and simplicity. HP didn't know how to utilize it properly.
so what next? android? dell and hp may not take android seriously cuz if they do so, they may strain their relations with microsoft, which may affect their computer sales
Hp isn't strong.
If they don't success it's just cause the equipments (touchpad and phone) aren't sell everywhere and aren't available to be support everywhere.
Hp had just to propose them as they do for a computer or in a combinaison of equipment : But they didn't want it.
I just remember them now as a pity company.
With more users and incentive, developpers could make also great apps !
For me Hp it's over
From one of the last WebOs fan....
I see the Big M all over HP
Hahaha, the sad reality is here. And this reality is that HP is a company that has nothing to do with innovation. When they bought Palm many experts were very skeptic for so loved WebOS future and they were right that HP will only ruin it. And they did it! Because to develop such a system you have to be innovative and HP is not. Just look at their newest laptops which are thick, heavy, hot&loud and with poor battery life. It’s a pitty that Nokia or Google didn't buy Palm...
if hp could remove the webos app store and replace it with the android market these things would fly off the shelves. The webos app store is the only thing that lets this phone down, the os itself and the pre3 looks fantastic
It's a pity. They just needed a good navigation software for it (e.g. Navigon, iGO) and that would have boosted the sales to the sky, even without large number of apps available. Big companies usually do not take clever decisions anyway.
Sad news! It is a great OS.
I'm genuinely disappointed. I own a Pre2 and was desperately waiting for Pre3. I have been actively developing apps for WebOS as well as for Android and seen the ease of development and UI performance of the app on both platforms and I loved WebOS. I heartily wish that HP recalls this decision and do not give up on this lovely WebOS...
Just release Pre3 with Android, I think many people will buy it, not many potrait slide out keyboard phones out there :) . The next is Rim and Symbian and maybe for iOS 6-8 year from now) coz they are proprietary :b
Cod3rror, 19 Aug 2011Pretty sad, all this OS needed was a good hardware, not that little soap holder Pre garbage, b... morei guess Apple will buy RIM soon. probably last Blackberry will be called iPro.
Anonymous, 19 Aug 2011In other news, HP also consider leaving the PC market as well, not just mobile devices.I Don't think so... HP would not leave PC Manufacturing. It's their best product.
Video Killed The Radio Star,
Nokia Killed MeeGo
HP killed WebOS
Who's next?
That's good news!
HP please release Pre 3 and you can do whatever you want...
that's mean linux is unlucky :(
nokia killed meego
hp killed webos
android is not linux it :( .
Here's a chance for whoever manufactured the handsets and tablet for HP to buy the rights to web os and become a player by initially undercutting all the competition for a time, as web os seems good, just late tothe party or miss managed. Do what Samsung do and show some love to, say someone in the xda community for app development. If they keep the device price margine low enough the developers will come.
Here's hoping another decent platform doesn't disappear due to poor corporate decisions, just like commodore.just think if they didn't screw up marketing the Amiga we'd be further advanced than were we are left with Microsoft and apple.
It's really a sad news. I really liked the webOS a sleek and simple OS.
