This is so sad. I used to own Palm devices before. HP's WebOS was a promising software that could have rivaled Apple's proprietary iOS. WebOS's true multitasking is cool.

This is really bad news. In addition, HP is considering to spin-off their PSG (notebooks and PCs), to gradually be converted into a software service company. Are we falling into a sort of "Google+Apple" global monopoly?

      it is a correct move.
they will need much more finance to make this OS to a certain level and return is not sure.
      so better to stop earlier.
it was unthoughtful move of HP to buy webOS without thinking about the future and potentials.
HP better stick to Android frm now on.

Thought they'd do this eventually. Back to Microsoft and the Windows platform for HP.

WebOS is a pretty good operating system. But in the Palm days, it was much more known.

This is just sad. I'm even considering getting the PRE3.

Anonymous, 19 Aug 2011They just do not have a good marketing team :DI agree. If only they were creative enough to market the product. WebOs is really good: fresh and not a copy cat. A lot of features and ideas were actually original.

              Too bad

In other news, HP also consider leaving the PC market as well, not just mobile devices.

AnonD-1082, 19 Aug 2011Last time I checked, WebOS has a bigger marketshare than WP7. Android and iOS killed WebO... moreWP7 has a pretty small worldwide marketshare (1-2%) but WebOS's is so tiny it doesn't show globally.

In the US (which I only use as an example because there's plentiful data), WP7 has a ~9% marketshare, WebOS

WebOS is a nobody. I barely knew it existed. Enormous marketing fail is enormous. Who cares if its dead HP should just stick to making printers.

Really sad at one point of time for HP it was a "double down". And now they have left it. I always had doubted that HP had any resources to make this successful. But for now this is a best option HP have. make full use of patent wars and sale this webos to make a profitable buy for them......

                              Now who's next?
Clue: It's a 5 letter word and they're also dying because of Android and iOS.

Pretty sad, all this OS needed was a good hardware, not that little soap holder Pre garbage, but an iPhone and Android like device.

What's woth companies killing really innovative operating systems with a big potential?

                                Soon probably Blackberry will follow.

Next year it'll probably be only iOS, Android and Windows Phone remaining.

Shame. They should have waited a bit longer just to see how Google will treat its partners after the acquisition of Motorola.
They could have offered an alternative for Win Mobile.
