They talk this write that but the bottom line, look at the photos they took (and here) and you will see massive softness, magenta skin etc... look at 3 photos of the girl(wide,normal,tale) and it is so low quality! Look at both the ifrut X and the Pixel 2, especially with face in the photo and you will see massive softness, retouching no no, the hair and everything is soft!
Noise free photos I won't trade off details( and sharpness) for less noise.

It smell scam a mile away Watched on youtube Android Authority hands on review on this phone, there are settings to change either 40mp or 10mp res. As for me, definitely gonna use the 10mp. If 40mp low lights are good already, then 10mp will definitely better binning and compression, plus the image size usable for media sharing. Owh did u know previous Nokia 808 Pureview mode compress res from 40mp to 5mp to get the desire quality because of the large sensor size.

WHAT does THIS mean ? It smell scam a mile away It is called downscale. Same Sony did with Z series.
20.7 was dowscaled to 8MP on auto to keep as much details as possible with lower noise than full resolution.
You can combine pixel to make them bigger, another way to reduce noise. So 40 smaller become 10 way bigger.
I think op5t does that , but failed to deliever good results.

It downsamples the 38 megapixel shot into a 5 megapixel file with each pixel taking reference from 7 pixels. It produces a picture that, when viewed on a monitor or screen, looks great but may not hold up as well when printing.
