It was a mistake to defend the notch.
However, it is a bigger mistake for such a design as it looks almost all other flagship smartphones.
They could have done Xiaomi way with the Mix 2s where the earpiece is on top of the phone while the front camera is at the bottom. See, how much phone calls do you do these days? Do OnePlus fans use the front camera all the time?

Notch is nonsense. Apple did a notch because they couldnt find a better design solution to the problem of having cameras and the front speaker grill and sensors. And now everyone is following Apple without even attempting to come up with a solution. Vivo did it. Now oneplus.

Why should we learn to love something that is ugly and unnecessary? The CEO of One Plus should learn not to copy Apple blindly. If it was such a good idea how come no manufacturer dare come out with it before Apple did? Is there no shame in being a copycat?

So there is no true innovation for crippling the notification bar and not be able to see important data such as the battery percentage number.

If your solution is to put a black bar via software to hide the notch, then it is clearly something wrong, otherwise you wouldn't need to hide it.
