LG asks Reddit for feedback on “the Notch” Comments

It's more difficult than "do you like the notch". The real question is "do you like/need the features that come with the notch". The notch is/will be there to house selfie camera, retina scanner, proximity scanner and god knows what is the next-in-line identification scanner. So the speaker can be handled well in minimum bezel "environment" (MiMix 2), proximity too, selfie camera can be handled better if you want minimum to no bezel (Vivo Apex I think was the concept model with pop-up camera). But you can't get rid of the iris scanner and the face recognition as their purpose is to unlock the phone without touching anything so the hardware ensuring this functionality should always be there (imagine to have to wait for the camera and iris scanner to pop-up...). If you want full "full screen" you need to dump always ready sensors and hide selfie camera somewhere and accept that you need to push a button/touch a fingerprint reader. If you want to unlock your phone while it's one the table - go with the notch or larger bezels. But no - it's no use for manufacturers to create different models for different types of people. There are too many options for trading features for others. So they just dump every technology they can think of in one device and put a sky high price on it - take it or leave it. They just need to make their homework (research) what features should be in there and make a compromise somewhere (e.g. start with dropping features which are not refined enough for mass production - under-display fingerprint for example). So balance is the sensible answer.

I know I sound like an LG fan but I vote for the notch
BUT under 5 conditions :-
1) the smallest notch possible and use ALL the space available on the notch for the selfe sensor and speakers and use ALL of the space available on the screen to display notification
2) OLED screen for the ability to disable the notch to save battery (since the battery is all ready small)
3) give the user the ability to hide the notch (turn it into a black bar with notification on it) so you will have less haters feedback
4) admit that the notch have ONLY two uses:-displaying notification and wallpaper (and notifications feedback)
5) MOST IMPORTANTLY DON'T you even THINK about saying/writing BULL$HIT about having "FULL VIEW" or "BEZELESS" it is ALL BULL$HIT >:(
you can also use the X screen corner notch so thay won't call it a COPYCAT ;)
I start to think that Apple have copyed notch from LG

Also it's not unseemly. People here have no imagination. Just paid the notifcation background same colour as the notch and voila it's basically part of a smart bezel. Helps if you have amoled (for true black).
People pretend to dislike it because it is the popular opinion. People don't know what is good for them.
It is smart for companies to push it. Not so smart that they do not integrate in aesthetic sense too (i.e. use the right colour as background).
In games younjust turn off that part of the screen. It's basically a secondary screen (for notfications and signal bars) anyway, no need of it jn games...

Currently, the notch is the worst idea in smartphone design.
BUT, it could be a great idea.
IF it was implemented in a smart way. Which it isn't.
And that, also, would need some big changes on the OS, which I don't know the industry has time to do

It's amazing how such a simple thing can be understood by these insane manufacturers. The people who appreciate Apple's ridiculous policies already have an iPhone. The rest want the opposite of what iPhonnes (don't) offer.

LG is going in the wrong direction. Why does android smartphone manufacturers have to get inspired by Apple. We already know what happened with iphone 10 by adding the notch.

Obviously is notch not a beautiful thing. Like in I like and want it badly :) . And some even think that adding bottom bezel while having notch on top change nothing.

Notch --> is a bad idea, in terms of design.
However with software, it can be put to use. For example, the space on the left and right of the notch can be used to display the signal strength, battery %, etc...
The remaining notifications from your apps, should be displayed below the notch.
Now, if you have an option of disabling the screen on the sides of the notch, through software, thats a brilliant way for satisfying people who dislike the notch.
