Just don't do weird stuff and don't download apps from alternative application markets. Also avoid all "cleaner" and "booster" apps. And don't download apps from the bottom of the Play Store. With this, your S6 can last as long as the battery does.

Remember that android can run things on the background without user notice (app closed), collecting info and/or displaying more ads on places that already have ads.

Clean Master was great, but its gigantic bloatware now
whatever you say about Apple and their overpricing, the one thing that you literally cannon complain about is their software updates 4/5 years for every device

Whilst I don't know if Apple have 3rd party anti virus apps, Android is awash with quality providers
The security update is Google looking at Google, your phone is not vulnerable here is a list https://fossbytes.com/best-android-antivirus-apps/
Having tried Avast & Trustgo all you are doing is not getting Google's take on it own vulnerabilities, these 3rd party antivirus apps are capable of filling the void
These Antivirus are bundled with Anti theft so provide additional features
NB these security updates followed a near total disaster by the complacency Google showed previously
It did receive the March patch. Welp, it's sad to see support dropped, but it got 3 years of monthly updates (at least here). I know others that did a significantly worst job...
Well that's a good excuse to install a custom rom into the S6, Lineage OS will do great and security patches included.

The iPhone 5s, launched in 2013, is still able to use the latest iOS 11 (though not all of the features, obviously enough). Whilst Apple does do many things questionably, the long term support of all its handsets is absolutely industry leading and a real benefit for customers. Until Android makers work out a way to do the same, Apple will always have an edge that many people see as critical.
dudecool, 03 Apr 2018Is it potentially risky to keep a phone beyond its security updates cycle? I want to keep m... moreNot really. Just don't go to suspicious sites or download illegal apps. My S5 isn't getting updates, but all my apps are getting updates and safe. People use even older phones.

I want to keep m... moreYou've provided your own answer: it's indeed potentially risky to keep a phone that no longer receives security updates, however I haven't heard about anyone having their phones affected due to this condition. It moatly depends on the apps you use and the websites you visit.
And this is where apple beats all these android companies.
Instead of copying the useless notch, copy the way apple support their phones.

I want to keep my s6 edge for at least another 6 months to a year.
