I think the real news here is Essential being alive long enough to release a succesor to PH-1.
selfie was looking good though, minimum notch, 4K. Easily better than the rest of flagships. Back one should be with big sensor, not like last one...
Honestly...I'd rather they fix the battery life and add stereo speakers. Camera software can easily be fixed (Open Camera is awesome for this) but hardware is forever.

---
Personally, I'm considering all aspects when I'm buying a cellphone (performance, style and price), including:
- processor, RAM and ROM,
- unlocked, 2 SIMs, wi-fi calling, 2 dozen of LTE bands (all bands for US, EU, Asia...),
- screen size, resolution and quality, small bezels,
- long life battery, rapid charging,
- front stereo speakers, headphone jack,
- great camera,
- price (low).
Last time (Black Friday of 2016) the winner was ZTE Axon 7, the US version.
Now that Google has made their camera software open, hopefully essential PH-02 will use it and deliver a better camera while using Sony IMX sensors and a good lens array.
I tried the original Essential phone for a week. I was attracted by its compact size. I liked the display quality and speed. However, there were a number of minor things I didn't like, one being the weight, very heavy for a smallish phone. Second was entering the pin number to unlock the phone. On other phones, as soon as you put in the last digit, the phone unlocks. With the essential, you have the added step of having to press an OK button. Then there are the navigation keys. I like phones that allow you to switch around the back button with the open apps button, can't do this with the Essential. I like to see the percentage battery life remaining. When you select that option in the Essential, it puts a minuscule percentage figure inside the battery icon instead of beside it making it too small to read. There were a couple of other minor annoyances but I can't remember them. Anyway they added up to motivate me to return the phone and get a refund.
like someone sayd in a review, this is a Essential Trash, nothing new, nothing special...this is DOA.
Even the sucessor will be DOA...the company itself is DOA.
So, if they dont put some features like stereo speakers, IR Blaster, Gestures, a better camera and so on this is nothing more like Basic not Essential.

And price it better next time, PH1 is a good phone but its launch price was a bit expensive considering it didnt had anything outstanding
Emm, and what about:
- high start cost;
- unrepairability;
- unnecessary flagshipness (too much performance and ppi);
- no front-facing stereo speakers;
- unnecessary cutout for selfie-camera;
- screen could be a little bit bigger;
?

Very few us consider performance, ppi,
Nice startup with PH-1. I hope they should come with Mid Rangers with high end specs for reasonable price.
Too late now for those who have already purchased the Essential phone.
I, however, am not one of them. :)
Essential Phone was decent, but it became awesome after the price drop. If their next device launches with a attractive price along with a good camera then it will likely be a good seller.
