Some people preferred closed systems. Not everyone looks to geek out by rooting their ROMs and uploading CFW or overclocking their processors or tweaking their application settings etc etc etc.
Some people just want a phone to use, not get their mental high from.

nokia's windows pnone should be better if it comes with AMOLED CBD DIPLAY OR CBD IPS LCD DISPLAY like in recently launched noki 701....cpu\gpu pretty much is the same in all wp7 phones.....nokia wp7 should have better camera and formfactor and design......go nokia!!!!!

And what's the meaning of "boring and ugly" If you compare this UI with Android...that one in Android is Plain and Boring, the one on iOS is Kiddish, so...
The phone from behind remember me an Nokia C7 hehehe but is not ugly at all, And is good looking and besides the Hardware is a SG2, Optimus killer.
The next generation of WP7 phones will be powerful enough to compete with any Android or iOS around.....
Be careful Google and Apple, Microsoft comes with everything...this is most than an update, is an entire redesigned OS.

Is it only me that thinks there is too much screen real estate wasted with this UI? I mean look at the two black areas on the top and the right of the screen... Why?

yeh this is interesting as there arent really many WPs on the market and it really needs a variation injection
