Whereas the Echo devices are stand alone and can perform more tasks than the HomeDop.

If someone just wants a good speaker, I think there are better alternatives at a reasonable price.

Sure they do not sound as good, but they fall under the same category. And someone is much more likely to just buy a € 30 device and say „who cares if it‘s good or not, it‘s just fun to try and maybe I‘ll keep it“ compared to a € 349 device, where the buyer more likely has to really know that he wants such a device and that it got the capabilities he needs.

It's to be expected, it can only be used with an iPhone. So Android smartphones users are already excluded from its consumers.
