Alien , 16 Apr 2018You can, but you don't need it for most of the apps. Enable USB debugging in developer setting... moreThe problem is, it is really hard for an average person to find the discernable difference between QHD and UHD resolution especially at 6 inch. Especially when it is an IPS display, the power consumption will be significantly higher as the resolution increases, and that's why nobody apart from Sony is using UHD display on their devices(from QHD onwards the disadvantage will overpower the advantage of having higher pixel number)

I don't really see the point of having 4k display unless it was used for VR purposes but still useless other than being a battery life sucker.

Anonymous, 16 Apr 2018I heard this 4K screen is fake marketing. The phone only uses the 4K mode when seeing pictures... moreYou can, but you don't need it for most of the apps. Enable USB debugging in developer settings, connect phone to pc with adb shell, type:
"wm size"
You will be presented with the actual resolution used, per example 1080x1920
To change it type (without the quotes):
"wm size 3840x2160"
Voila! Done! Now everything runs in 4k.
Just do some research before embarrassing yourself..

PS the stress on performance and battery life will make you change it back to the default state in a few days.. There is no efficiency in what you're asking.

Sony had a point in making things the way they are.

I heard this 4K screen is fake marketing. The phone only uses the 4K mode when seeing pictures in Sony album app and Sony video app.
For example, it doesnt work for Google Photos. Sony staff confirmed this.
Meaning the 4K is completely useless for anything. You wont really see any videos or pictures in 4K unless you somewhat keep placing them inside these apps and the codecs somehow works with the video you have.
Got a nice 4K movie to watch? Good luck running it at 4K on your xperia.
You have gorgeous pictures from somewhere else and not exactly taken with your xperia? They wont show in 4K either unless you use Sony app for them. If you look pictures and videos online they wont appear 4K. If you download a MKV it wont reproduce at 4K.

Research before you buy, this 4K is completely fake, unless they make the whole Android system run at natively 4K, meaning all apps running at 4K, otherwise its shady deceptive marketing for you to buy their phone.

Not even talking about HDR compatibility with downloaded movies.

The day they release a native genuine 100% true 4K phone, i will buy one.
Right now it runs 99% of the time at 1080p.

that is why XZ2 wasn't good
thy were preparing for a this
beast
finally increaseing the adaptor width (F/number) returning the old selfe camera and the old school 16:9 4K screen yes it is wide but 18:9 is just to much pixels for 4Ks
the only problems are
EXTREMELY heavy and bulky due to the dusl glass sandwich design and 16:9 is wide (but justified)
no OIS BUT they COULD have a reason for not adding it in the last 3 years
LCD is old school and there is no reason to dump the OLED screens (just like OIS and F/2.0)
and the un justified lack of 3.5mm jacks :P
we will see a HILL of a fight between XZ2 PREMIUM and the S9+

ProJames, 16 Apr 2018It's massive and thick, they still could not fit the 3.5mm jack here? Nope sorry. Also curse t... moreYep, curse that goddamn design! Call it Ambient Flow or whatever, I wouldn't say that they copied HTC's design, but they followed it instead. It looks great on HTC U11 and newer iterations with the use of that design language, but not on Sony's smartphones. U would probably also say that their old OmmiBalance design looks way better than this, if that is what u are thinking, I'm with u ma brotha, it is way thinner with the presence of the 3.5mm headphone jack. Isn't it funny? Their predecessors all have great, premium design, but isn't that great when it comes to camera. Their current high-end flagships, it is premium, and with great cameras, but the design, hell no, OmmiBalance is still way better looking if it were to shave off those bezels, and the increase of thickness without our best friend Jack is absurd, it is like the exact opposite of what they did previously. Losing our best friend Jack is a shame, but people call it the "future", so yeah, u will be missed, Jack. But hope they aren't contracted with the notch disease, though

Could they have made the bezels any larger on this thing? Manufacturer of the largest chin device of the year goes to: Sony! Sticking with the low and non-ergonomic fingerprint scanner location as well. FAIL

Isnt it first phone with which you can record and watch 4K HDR? Also I think its about time gsma added extreme low light test to compare tool. Not enough for this beast or p20pro one.
