Not sure if Samsung will want sell them, probably the'll prefer preserve their reputation in the US market above sell to ZTE their SoC. Huawei and ZTE are big contenders in China, i can't see them opening their exclusive chipsets to ZTE, unless there is political pressure to do so. I see more them condemned to use Mediatek from now.
this is NOT a strategy from Apple to destroy the competition from miner brands
this is another stupid move led by suspension of Chinese spying on America :P
tho it is good for Apple since most (if not all) manufacturers use snapdragon chipsets for there flagship there will be no competition left from Android (except Google) nor windows (there OS was an EPIC FAILURE and they all ready stopped making phones)
not unless Google made an in house chipset without the need of HTC or made an EPIC flagship Apple will role the American market
No problem, ZTE will just buy Exynos from Samsung to cover flagships and Mediatek SoC for mid and low end.
rip high end ZTE phones
Will be interesting to see how Telstra here in Australia respond as ZTE make most of their rebadged phones and a lot of their comms equipment.
Anonymous, 17 Apr 2018They will have to use crappy Mediatek chips now or persuade Samsung to sell their chipsets to them. Anyone can get an Exynos, but I think it's expensive, especially with modem patents licences
Potential good outcome: Using Exynos processors
Very likely outcome: Using MT.
But I wonder: Does this affect companies that have their phones built by ZTE (i.e. Archos)? Maybe not, they could just ''buy'' them themselves.
Why did they admit anything in the first place? Then they wouldn't need to fire anyone or discuss about the "bonuses" etc.
Just like the US government, let alone companies, admit nothing.
or, cause them to get to work asap, and create their own chipset.

Anonymous, 17 Apr 2018Will this affect the upcoming Nubia Red Devil? I was looking forward to that :(Yes.... it will affect Nubia too.
Mediatek will love this new... Their Helio X30 will be revived from the dead.
Haha, soon US will have only Apple left
hah "prohibited goods such as chipsets"
in US is easier to buy weed than bread but somehow chipsets are illegal lol

Well there are exynos mediathek and hisillicon chipsets most people won´t even ask what chipset is inside their phones as long as they work.
Should do to other chinese OEMs too.
The UK cyber security watchdog has also blacklisted ZTE aswell, bad times for ZTE, very bad!
this has huge ramifications for zte's future business. rip.
