but but but android P is just around the corner and android O is still at 4.6%, thats just crap

That's why the first thing I do with a new Android phone is remove all the bloatware and disable what cannot be deleted, even the unnecessary Google Apps except for the Playstore (and Play Services), Chrome, YouTube.

Some of the people I know got Oreo for their P10 earlier than mine.
A picture that tells me more than thousands of words. It just shows where android failed. They need to start from scratch and design a future proof os. Google needs to thoroughly re-engineer their services which are a primary source of weakness for android. Incremental upgrades on a weak foundation don't work. We've seen that already, so I'm not really looking fw to P,Q or R but rather to a new and fully functional os with no drain and instant updates for all devices running it.

Samsung and LG for example aren't really that good at updating, especially with the number of phone models they have especially for Samsung.. Meanwhile, some brands like Huawei already have Oreo even on midrange devices. My Huawei P10 is already on Oreo for example, and has the March security patch.

Now of course not everyone in the world affords €300 but definitely a lot more than 5%.
ChronoRad, 17 Apr 2018Still so many people buying cheap or phones from shitty companies that don't provide OS updates. Well, that's the price you paid for. Can't blame people because almost everyone wants a smartphone even if its a cheap one. Of course, not everyone can afford a flagship phone, and there are people who can't even afford a midrange one so they buy a cheap one, or even a used one.
Really cheap Android phones will likely never get OS updates, or even security patches. Usually midrange Android phones will get 1 OS update, while the flagships get 2 or even 3 if they're lucky. Not sure about the Android One/Go phones.
Most of the OEM's delay in updating their pre-installed skinned OS or don't bother to update it at all. So far Nokia, Pixel & very few other handsets got latest OS updates. No wonder share of latest OS will always remain poor unless Google force them to update the OS or update it directly bypassing OEMs. Meanwhile, my so called low end Nokia 3 got Oreo update.
Still so many people buying cheap or phones from shitty companies that don't provide OS updates.
Well, what matters is that the OS isn't buggy and filled with issues. No point in having the latest version of the OS if it's filled with bugs *ehem* iOS *ehem*.
Nougat is working fine for most people, as long as they have close to the most recent security patches and they don't do stupid things like download from untrusted sources or access malicious sites.
Those phones running Jelly Bean are just.. omg i cant.
For kitkat, i still understand. Many, MANY phones still have it.
Even in Android Studio (tools for making apps), Google still use Kitkat as minimum API support as default.
Strange because many API just wont work for pre-Lolipop.
