other snapdragon chips also include a vector DSP enable AI applications such as faceunlock, voice recog., and computational photography (image enhancements).

For instance, Snapdragon 625 delivered great images through the imagers in Mi A1

AnonD-510098, 23 Apr 2018It wasnt just bragging rights, Huawei had it in production... Like Apple?

I mean, the A11 couldnt possibly be designed and fabricated in one week, right?

Look, Huawei decided to show the kirin one week before apple's event just to brag about the NPU, nothing more. They knew their phone couldnt be launched before the iphone to be claimed as the first with a dedicated "AI chip".

AI on phones is BULL$HIT >:(
it NOTHING but a fancy title ;$)
NPUs in phones are quite small and weak cant they make a HUGE one for a supercomputer? maybe for REAL objects ragnizeing (pets cars food like Bixby) and photo filters and for noise reduction and fixing the blur effects and automatically choosing the shooting mode (it exist because it is easy to program) photo editing
and there is other uses like for like voice ragnizeing and solving puzzles (maybe asking the phone/computer?) and speeding up the CPU in some tasks also the learning port like cookies so it will know what the user wants
so unless you can improve the NPUs in phones (or invent a new use for it) it will be just an improved version of Sonys "SUPERIOR Auto mode" :P

Like what google ... moreNo. They had machin learning in the Mate 9 which had algorithms to make sure the phone is kept fast after years of usage, whereas other phones like samsungs and apples slow down.

I see no other than image recognition.
If they call it intelligence, then make it intelligent and smart at least:
- identify if I am photographing a performance (stage) or in church, or museum and disable flash
- identify if I am near a food store and popup my shopping list
- remind me to fuel my car when planning route in navigation
- check the net for my preferred places for news
- find out my utility bills and remind me to pay those
These are smart. My smartphone is dumb. I still wait for one that walks to the charger if battery is empty. :-)

All those gimmicks with AI or machine learning is disastrous. People who don't have lifes and spends their time posting shitty pictures on Facebook has been lured into concept that Smarthpone will do everything for you and you no need to think about anything else is WRONG. Smartphone it's just a tool, you are master of it and you use it as a tool to help you do your daily tasks. Later people crying that their personal informations been leaked or Smartphone did what it's not suppose to do. You can only blame yourself for thinking that smartphone will do everything for you without any consequences, as it says in case of scenario there the smartphone is more smarter than a user :)

1. put 1000 scenes modes in phone, starting from food, dog, car, ending in feet, toothpaste and 100 version of face beatification(99% of them do the same thing: bump color/contrast/blur background).
2. put automatic scene recognition and call it AI, super-mega-inteligent

After trying it so many time, not only on camera but in phone it self I can say that its just advertising mambo-jumbo that for most of time just annoy you with its results.

I remember the Meego in Nokia N9 was among the first to recognise people's faces in the pictures taken by the camera by comparing the faces on and suggesting to tag them in facebook..

I just don't like arguing other manufacturers because they are making their own different ways to attract consumers. Ugh, stop this war PEOPLE.
