Even if Apple, who don... moreI know what you're trying to say, I'm not going to invalidate your point, but that's exactly what happened to the case of the removal of the headphone jack. Apple was the first to show(by leaks)/announce that they were going to remove the jack, but all of a sudden, Motorola realize it first with its Moto Z/Z Force, but still, people only remember Apple as the first that did it.
To my knowledge, I thought Huawei was the first to have an NPU to a chipset, because they were really hyping their Kirin 970 so early for its AI capabilities and having an NPU to their chupset before others do it, but I was wrong, because, Apple released their own first.
My point is, you're not wrong, but Five Star isn't exactly wrong too.

And exactly what does AI stuff on the mate 9?
Image recognition? Like what google photos do? Or like the photo categorization on iOS10? I think even samsung can group similar photos too since a lot...
Scene detection? Like the automode in every-single-phone since 2010?
Cause if i remember correctly that was pretty much what they showed on the mate 10 event when were talking about AI stuff: the same things that we already have but faster.

Hey guys! I have a nice chip but im not going to release it before the others, but remember, cause i bragged about it first, that make me somehow the first to have one.

SD820 already had AI, Huwaei was the loudest to introduce that one year later :)

Can we stop calling it a i, its not. The worlds most powerful super comouter in terms of intelligence is no smarter than a worm. So your phone which is billions of times slower than the fastest computer is nowhere near intelligent enough to be called proper artificial intelligence

The unlabelled photos learning is Unspervised, and when we tag them, it becomes Supervised.
I think ML is one of the major in General AI, including data mining.
Google and Facebook are huge in data mining. So are Amazon, walmart. Even Netflix is creating their original series based on the prediction resulted by data mining. And maybe GSMA also does the mining to know which type of article make interest most.
Unlimited google photos also help Google to provide the data they need for training purpose. That is why Google Photos’ feature to tag animal comes later. They had done training the animal data, thank to photos we provide. Dont be scared, as long as Google doesnt sell the data, it is ok.

124C4+1, 22 Apr 2018Check the retail box image leaks, says SD 660 AIE, also says USB Type C to Audio so no 3.5 mm ... moreThen that means the trailer was for the lower spec models cause you can clearly see a 3.5mm jack, then again it's missing in the official renders so it might be both models.
As for the chip, maybe it's optimized but it's still a mid-ranger. Cost effective but will never compete with the likes of the 7nm Kirin 980.

Huawei was thye first to have built in AI, but then again, the good guys of GSMarena forgot to mention that, hyping the snapdragon and the Ios was more important than give awya real facts. Another "great" article.

All AI chips has done so far is pretty small scene recognition, face recognition, speach and text recognition with translation is pretty much all I remember, all this can be done without AI chips and wont be too much slower currently AI is just marketing thing but atleast its going forward cant wait to run google assistant offline

Wonder what would be the phone ranking based on AI capability... its not just about online AI anymore, its also about self learning and processing power...
AI should wipe off the purple fringing on the image if it is truly intelligence.
