Why nobody is talking about lifespan and reliability? Most SD cards like Samsung Evo have TLC NAND which has short lifespan and are unreliable.

But for example the Transcend Ultimate 633x has MLC NAND and Error Correcting Code (ECC). I don't know how many people use it in a phone.

And what about industrial SD cards that people use in dash cams? And SLC cards?

If a phone doesn't have the SD card slot, I'm not interested what are the rest of the specs. It may have 20GB RAM and Snapdragon 1000: I'm NOT interested!
This is why I'll never buy a Pixel or any other phone that doesn't have one.

The author couldn't be more wrong saying someone wouldn't buy this for their S9+. Are you serious? This would be the first thing to buy after the phone.

AnonD-393912, 23 Apr 2018For $200 i could get 400GB microSD or 4TB external HDD (and get enough change to buy 128gb Mic... moreIt's clear that is a question of how much mobile storage do you need in your phone. Un case 128GB is enough for you, it doesn't make sense to buy the 400GB one

I'd like to know a source to check in which phones it will work, beyond Samsung S9, Xiaomis, Nokias and some Motorolas (mine is Z Play).

sandisk ought to "reach out" phone manufacturers and encourage them to manufacture more phones with a slot to use their products. No point coming here when there's f*ll phones microSD slots these days.

If you lo... moreUnless you intend on switching the MicroSD card between devices, how exactly is using an encrypted MicroSD card a PITA? I do that on my Surface Pro 2 (it's like a second partition) but not my Note 8 yet as I use a Custom ROM/Recovery, and I read the following in Samsung's SD encryption details:

"If your device is reset to factory default settings, it will be unable to read encrypted SD cards."

If they simply fix that and make it like Windows BitLocker, where you can create a password and unlock it on any Windows PC, then I'd enable it (if my custom recovery allows decrypting it with the password).

SanDisk products are really good quality. Using SanDisk Ultra 64GB and 128GB they are working good. Waiting for new 512GB version.

I still think that using expendable storage such as microSD for phones is a mistake. If you lose your phone and your card is in it, anybody who finds it can access your files, unless you have them encrypted somehow, in which case using them for day-to-day usage is a pain in the ass.
On top of that, most OEMs are removing expandable storage in their flagships so you are left with very few options.
