Looks like, good... moreThat's because there's no more good ideas that any company including Samsung and Nokia can think of. Think of a good idea? It's difficult to come up. Don't worry, HMD and Nokia still have patents and they're also the trendsetters for 5G.

the iphone x was a dissapointment, maybe not because of its notch, but still it's weird that CEOs of just like oppo, samsung (though not S series), Nokia, Huawei decided to go for this feature. The notch has no positve feature besides adding a small numer of inch to the screen, which can't be used in games or video-playback. If for this, the V10 was visionary, having not only a kind of notch but also a second screen besides it. You could alternate it, it was big enough for shortcuts and feed. The notch on the other hand leaves 4mm of screen that is good for simply nothing. It's a forced feature with no sense behind it. Hope this trend stops soon with phones like Vivo Apex, Doogee Mix 4 innovating while avoiding the notch. I predict Apple to use a piezoelectrical sound in future phones going back to sharp aquos crystal back in 2014 and mi mix 1 2016.

If y... moreThe Essential phone's notch is nothing compared to the ugliness of those that followed. The notch in PH-1 is beautiful and it does not stand in your way when you are viewing the display. More than that, the apps are optimized for PH-1, and are full screen, notch included. The Essential phone has the best notch design, while keeping it pretty and premium, it stands out in a crowd!

This makes me realize that we, gadget fans that often lurking at many tech sites (including this one) are so different than majority of casual users. We want some originality while the rest of users only care about latest "trend" instead of originality.

Anonymous, 25 Apr 2018I dont think sony has own design. They just copied htc for their XZ2 design.Technically Sony was using this kind of glossy back colors, the chrome mirror, and glass before all. the back design is not the same too. so how they copied HTC?

Real Nokia is gone in 2010 ,or last real Nokia was Nokia 808 Pureview from 2012 with great camera in that time, and Symbian os.
So.. Better Microsoft, or HMD Nokia phones on the market, than nothing with Nokia name i guess..
