Lets take a brief memory lane.
Apple removed floppy disk drive in the late 90s
Windows PC also removed floppy disk drive too several years after.
Apple removed VGA ports on their Mac books and I Mac after 2010.
Windows PC are also doing it, but not the budget laptops or PC
Apple removed the headphone jack in 2016 on their iPhone 7.
Android are aslo removing it too.
Apple adds the notch on their iPhone X on 2017
Android adds the notch too this year.
NOW: Apple is planning to ditch the lightning to 3.5 adapter in 2019.
Others may do if so that happens!!! ;)

Sushant Sic, 03 May 2018I don't believe that they will ever bundle the 300$ AirPods in the Box... A cheap pair will do. All phones should come with a hands-free set.

There is "input file", there is conversion via a Bluetooth codec, there is latency on the way to headphones, there is DAC in headphones and there is an amplifier in headphones ... and that is only the basic description.
Where is "virtually no difference" (there is a difference, but so small not many people will hear it or care about it) is when you use LDAC. And that is the only solution for a Bluetooth codec part - still we do not have decent DACs and amplifiers in most of the headphones on a market.
It's not easy to combine the low amount of space, quality and battery life. It's not cheap ...

Apple is far down from Nokia...They have added screen mirroring through headphone jack and plenty other features...instead of developing it...sorry apple.

I do not know why these companies want to put tiny bomb (li ion battery) and brain toaster microwaves on everyone's head. I think people should take proper decisions and put their money on right tech and companies.
But almost 80 percent people are non technical(never read or visit tech sites or they have any science background) and they just buy the costliest or trendy or heavy promoted product believing that they have taken the finest futuristic product. So we can see oppo, vivo or apple like companies are making high profit(which they dont deserve) by using this section of people.

And then, they would release the 2nd gen. iphone se with a headphone jack just to minimize cost and to maximize profit. What a hypocrite, forcing a headphone jack-less future, but would still use the original iphone se design just to save some $$$.

iPads still have 3.5mm. So does all the Macs. So for wired options, the lightning earpod is selfishly designed.
If Apple's plan is to push for new technology, they wouldn't just alienate the phone users only. Moreover, there is an inconsistency between Macs and iPhone/iPads. They should ALL be migrated to just usb-c, or package wireless for all users.
Look at Steve long ago, when he push for new tech, EVERYTHING down the line changes in 1 generation. People no longer look back. This Jackless BS however is never address fully.. and linger sooo very long its no longer funny.
Just look at 2018 iPad, you know full well the goal of this company. Milk your money, while making the absolutely minimum changes possible.
