You are probably right about the remote..
It would enable them to sell extra hardware, to owners.
It would also enable app makers to prepare their apps for remote controlling, that is probably a part of the future of GoogleCast/Chromecast.
I hope they are planning for the option of stand-alone operation (with qwerty support, and some way of accessing apps directly on the chromecast).

I hope they have buttons for skipping back a 15 seconds (or so) as hardware keys on the official remote, that would probably enable app-makers to always have that function in the app. In so many cases it is next ner impossible to use the timeline for short jumps. (some apps don't even support landscape mode, so all one get to make jumps is a tiny timeline).

I hope though, that it is not just as a developers option, to prepare for the bluetooth remote for next generation, and something that will never reach the typical owner.

I wonder if the Ultra has bluetooth as well?

Or maybe it is for the Chromecast-Audio. That thing is a wifi (wireless) audio adapter.
