Sure, going Costum yields the Mongoose M3 and Apple Monsoon. But that's only if you'll costumise the core.

And the GPU is already better for Snapdragon.

Apple's A12 and Huawei's 980 are the only SoC that's going to be on TSMC's 7nm FinFET this year because of low yield and high cost... only flagship phones are worth the expensive tech. SD 955 might be on 7nm or may stay with 10nm depending on if TSMC can improve yield

Where the QSD 820/821/835 were battling Apple's A8 and A9 SoC's, the Apple A10 chip has gone uncontested..... let alone the Apple A11-Bionic.

Early benchmarks showed (finally) that Samsung Exynos 9 seriously crushing the Apple A10 and getting halfway to the A11-Bionic. Well, we know that to be a scam as the Exynos has a scheduler issue, so its slow to react and it eats up battery life poorly. In deed, if you're getting a Samsung S9 Variant, the QSD 845 chipset is the superior option. Yet, the QSD 845 is a mild improvement over the QSD 835, and still shy of the Apple A10 standard which is a far-cry from the Apple A11's level.

I'm hopeful with Huawei, that they might be the first to catch up to the Apple A11-Bionic chipset. Even if it takes an advanced 7nm lithography, we should be commending the advancement. Basically, a leap from netbook-tier performance to the ultrabook-tier performance crammed into our palms. I really want to see Qualcomm cower under pressure. More competition will lead to a healthier market.

                                Right.
This year's 10nm LPP chipsets are barely an improvement over last year's 10nm LPE ones.
And this is actually a great chance of keeping up, since it will take the SnapDragon 855 with 7nm to catch up to this Kirin 980, meaning that the next Huawei P device after the P20 series will be just as powerful as next year's flagship phones, unlike this year when the P20 series are basically trumped by newer flagships due to an older generation chipset.
