There is nothing Nokia on these phones.
HMD and Foxconn are responsible for whole project.
NOKIA name on it is just a way to sell more.
Who would buy a phone with HMD Global name on it?

HTC did because ... moreLOL. nokia 8 looks a 100 euro phone period. i've a friend that have a xiaomi Mi A1 it looks better than the nokia 8 both with metal back. htc u11 have 4 mics, i can talk 2meters away with the phone in any position it will respond to me without failing 1 time.
nokia 8 camera its 2 years behind...autofocus is a mess, slow like hell and the photo quality is just not flagship. if it's the best nokia can do...they need to work harder...much harder. the antena bands (plastic) are horrible on nokia 8. like i said xiaomi a1 looks much better with same aproach design. htc u11 bends because of its design (squeeze function) that i use every day, its not a gimmic like reviews say that use the phone 1 day and pass to another...i've the phone for almost a year now...with 0 scratchs or dents or anything..with no front cover or screen protector. still mint condition with 0 care. i was a proud owner of nokia 9 (last good nokia phone) but seeing this last devices, they are really bad in quallity. and you talk about LG phones? that makes sense because LG makes crappy phones also for a long time....ofc its good enought for you...your used to crap. good for you. have a nice day.

HTC did because it lacked plastic absorbers. I don't care about screen colors because they looked good to me; LG G5's display which is also used on the Nokia 8 is great. Details in hardware? More like the Nokia 8 has better 3D Microphones ala OZO than HTC and the 8 has the coveted Headphone Jack. That's why I prefered the Nokia 8 more than the U11 and that's coming from a guy that liked all the HTC's recent flagships.
Yeah, the camera needs a lot of work and I wish the Lumia camera app on the 8 is updated with better algorithms like the one found on 8 Sirocco but don't let DxOMark influence your head too much.

U12: 5.5" 16:9 QHD Super LCD 6, SD845, 6GB, 64GB, 12MP rgb + 12MP monochrome both 1/2.5" with f1.7, 13MP selfie, 3600mAh
U12 Pro: 5.8" 18:9 QHD Poled, SD845, 6GB, 128GB , 12MP rgb + 12MP monochrome both 1/2.3" with f1.6, 16MP selfie, 3600mAh
Both flagships with front speakers, ip68, vertical centered camera

I read last year that in Taiwan , 40% of all phones that costed at least $400 sold in 2016 were Sony.
Sony barely sells phone but Taiwan is their 2nd favorite market. They beat Htc and Asus.
Asus is no better than HTC. Phones like Zen3 Deluxe and Zen4 Pro were a big fail.
Zen4 Pro ( SD835) was not even reviewed by main tech sites.

It needs to be solid, in all areas. A mediocre battery, won't cut it. An average camera won't. It needs to have wireless charging, a solid screen. Edge sense is not enough. A translucent back is nice, but not enough.

with asus flag costing less than 500 euros. One plus a little bit more, Xiaomi even less than that and Nokia with also good prices...it will be hard for HTC to compete even if they sell it for 700 euros. I've one htc u11, and is a fantastic phone. a friend of mine just bought a nokia 8, and comparing both, quality speaking...nokia 8 looks a 100 euros phone comparing to htc u11. camera on nokia 8 sucks hard, screen colors are worst ever seen on a flagship (even with sRGB profile). the details in the hardware design are much better looking and polish on HTC. the only think i complain about htc is that nokia 8 is already at android 8.1 with april security patch. htc u11 is with 8.0 with november security patch. they lost me here. I will consider pixel 3 or maybe i will wait for 4. u11 is still kicking with 0 lag.

I think HTC need to learn from ASUS.
ASUS zenfone 2 is a success because of the price
After that ASUS not doing great because it keep raising the price
And now ASUS learn and make ASUS zenfone max pro with SD 636 and affordable price.
