Even the android one nokia devices aren't 100% fully updated, some with old security patches still...I use Moto, Nokia, Sony, Huawei, Samsung and sometime Apple, and most drag their feet on updates to be really honest

The hardware is there on the P20 Pro. That 1/1.7" sensor is unmatchable by most of the current flagships today, and while software isn't perfect, it will only get better over time with updates.
S9 only beats it because it's already at its limit or the best quality it can achieve.
The P20 Pro, however, can still take much better photos than it can when the software is polished.
DxOMark is not that reliable anymore, but the score on the P20 Pro is real, and its test results aren't sponsored by Huawei. They definitely paid DxO for sure, but only for them to test their phone before anything else, while the judging is still according to DxO's standards.
I dare you to take a macro picture of something without using portrait modes on either phones and see which one has a much better background defocusing depth.

That Oreo update is freakish late for Nokia 7. For a stock android it should of had it half a year ago or so.
So whats the point of the Nokia stock android if you get updates on it half a year late or even longer ? The point to have stock android in the beginning is to get updates when released and not need to wait half a year or even longer to get them on your phone.

However, they managed to get each ... moreHuawei's midrange segment, in terms of security updates and Android versions, are one of the best. Even my Y7 Prime is now on April security patch! Samsung is just... Meh. Same thing for LG too, but not too shabby because they bring the best features on midrange level (like the Q6!).

But Huawei has a lot more. However, they managed to get each of them updated.
My friend's Nova 2i/Mate 10 Lite is already on Oreo, and it appears that similar Huawei phones (Mate SE, P smart, etc.) are soon to receive it.
Heck, your Y7 Prime might even get Oreo!
One thing is, never trust Samsung for updates in mid range and budget segment.
I would say, Huawei is actually the best overall smartphone brand right now, for a fact that their phones are really good at any price range.
Their flagships can easily go toe-to-toe with the likes of Samsung and Apple, while their mid rangers like the View 10 can challenge OnePlus in its own game.
Their budget phones are also very competitive, although I do think Xiaomi still leads here, but they ain't that far away really.
