AnonD-740509, 16 May 2018Essential phone is the inventor of the notch It might be the inventor of the notch, but Apple's was more mainstream and fit much more in the bug notch. While I do agree they made it, I don't really see companies copying Essential, save for Sharp.

After Apple's iPhone X it suddenly became good to have a notch. If a phone shouldn't have bezels then what's the point if you still need a small one in the form of the notch?
Better to have a thin bezel in the top and/or bottom like on the Mi Mix models so you can keep the full display intact.
Apple's Jony Ive wasn't so full of bad ideas when Jobs was there to guide him.

AnonD-740509, 16 May 2018Essential phone is the inventor of the notch the essential phone notch was only the camera, technically apple did not copy that notch, apple's notch is a curved rectangular notch with face id inside. essential wanted a full screen phone but cannot get rid of the camera while apple got rid of the touch id and replaced it with face id. the essential notch is worlds apart from the apple notch. essential notch is for aesthetics while ipx is for function

and then, they will claim they invented 'the notch' first, long before iphone x, essential, sharp aquos phone, and even before the first invention of handphone. of course they don't like to call it as notch, they 're-invented' it as secondary screen...

As much as I hate the notch at least Xiaomi is the first Android OEM to utilise it. If it's open to third-party development it might actually be interesting.

Face recognition is great for making some sort of 3D models of yourself for apps, in games, as avatars and so forth. Hooe it doesn't destroy the rest of the sold called privacy or what's left of it anyway.

For kind of security, you are asking to bare with bigger Notch?... If there's no choice and got to live with any Notch Phone then I will choose OnePlus 6 or P20 Pro or any other Phone with the smaller Notch...
