I'm from the Future. Guess What! 2018 iPhones which cost over $1000 still come bundled with a paltry 5W charger.

Why would Apple be paying r... moreI mean if they switch to USB-C they can't milk $$$ from royalties and licensing fees paid by other brands (to them) that will use their Lightning Port.. Since USB-C by its name is universal, and non-proprietary, they won't be able to make $$$ from that since they don't have patent for that, being universal and sort of open source. Sheesh.

But they're still using Lightning as connector for the iPhone end of the device. Of course, if they used USB-C on both sides they can't milk $$$ in royalties from using the Lightning connector.

The charging block will have a USB-C port. The cable will be USB-C to Lightning. The port on the phones will still be a Lightning port.
