The microSD "issue" is akin to the removable batteries one -- once people realized powerbanks were a thing, the problem went away. USB OTG support is the powerbank of microSD cards.

Samsung need to increase internal storage and ditch the SD card as it slows the phone and your data is more easily compromised if not encrypted which most don't bother with.
